The NWU celebrates World Environmental Day

"The theme for World Environment Day on 5 June 2023 will focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. The world is being inundated by plastic. More than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, half of which is designed to be used only once." (UN Environment Programme, 2023)

In South Africa and at the NWU we are faced on a daily basis with a daunting array of environmental challenges. The NWU is committed to environmental sustainability and is on a drive to reduce our carbon footprint. Our focus will be on reducing our water use, improving our energy efficiency measures and drastically reducing our waste to landfill.

Please look around you today and think what you can do at the NWU to protect our world – even reporting a leaking tap or switching the bathroom light off will make a difference.

Staff and students also stand the change to win great prizes by entering the NWU World Environmental Day competitions!

Show us how you are making a difference!
