Dear NWU student

The purpose of this communique is to confirm the NWU's position in respect of the assessment mode of first and second opportunity examinations.

1. First and second opportunity examinations are conducted in accordance with the NWU General Academic Rules, Faculty Yearbooks, module overview documents, and module assessment plans.
2. Both examination opportunities are conducted according to the mode of examination (i.e. contact invigilated, online invigilated, continuous assessments) determined in the relevant module overview documents and/or module assessment plan and is binding on all students enrolled for the module.
3. Lecturers and students must adhere to the mode of examination, as any deviation impacts the credibility of assessments in the module, and fairness towards all students registered for the module.
4. Therefore, it is not possible for students to complete first or second opportunity examinations in a mode of examination that deviates from the module overview document and/or module assessment plan.
5. First and second opportunity examinations must thus be conducted in the same mode specified for a module and may not alter from contact invigilated mode for the first opportunity exam to online invigilated mode for the second opportunity exam, or vice versa.
6. Students who are registered for contact mode of delivery will not be allowed to sit for an exam in a venue other than the designated campus venues. No online invigilated exams will be allowed for students registered in the contact mode of delivery.
