1. Review: Unit 4

Topic: Processing Information: Critical Reading

What I have learned about the topic.

  • In this study unit I have learnt how to critically analyse texts.
  • I have learnt that facts are important in academic writing
  • The characteristics and things to know about facts include;
  1. facts can be outdated meaning
  2. mistakes happen so facts can have some incorrect information
  3. facts change over time, due to ever increasing information and because times change and situations change facts are bound to change.
  4. opinions might look like facts if someone feels strongly about the opinion or opinions.
  5. passed on information might get muddied.
  • Opinions can be identified as informed opinions and just opinions.

What I did or did not enjoy about this lecture.

  • i liked the fact that we learnt about facts and how to differentiate between facts, opinions and informed opinions. The class was nice because we were interacting and making different examples on the topic.

2. Preview unit 5

Topic:Processing Information - writing for academic purposes

What I know or have read about the topic.

  • Academic work should be written in a specific way and that formal language should be used when writing academic texts.
  •  There are different ways to make writing formal which include: staying on the topic, staying on the topic does not mean that you have to be one sided, you have to write what you mean and mean what you write, need to avoid redundancy etc.
  • How the structure of an academic text should be.
  • logical connectors
  • How to perfect and introdunction

What I did not understand or want to know more of about the topic.

I understood the topic clearly

Thank you
