MARISKA OOSTHUIZEN-VAN TONDER

Hi my name is Mariska Oosthuizen-van Tonder

(yes, the first question is usually why the double barrel surname? It is my legal surname, my maiden and husbands surname combined but you are welcome to only use van Tonder)

I am a professional nurse, since 2011, specialized in Psychiatric Nursing Science. I enjoy teaching students and helping them to grow into professional nurses.

Week 3 - Weaving

Weaving, a new concept for me was a bit more challenging as I initially forgot to acknowledge participants by naming them and had to go back and repost it. The weaving however reminded me of identifying themes in qualitative research as described by Cresswell. I applied the same principles and it kind of made sense, I however think that it would be a good idea to let someone validate/check it with you if possible, in the case of a facilitator and co-facilitator.  I also now now that one should be vary in using summarizing online as it may cause the discussion to stop

Mariska - I first want to comment on your profile comment - double barrel surnames - I do fancy that a lot, but can you imagine with a surname like - Jansen van Vuuren- - daughter will have to ensure that she marries into a short surname family:)
You draw a valauable analogy with Creswell's work - what a master indeed! I agree with you that summarising will potentially stop the conversation - so the stage where you do the summary or weave is really important - I also find the tool where you do that has an impact. I prefer to do the weave in the announcement - among other thins, instead of doing it in the forum discussion itself. Have you thought where you would post such a weave and what the impact might be - do we do it early on to get the students started or towards the end of the conversation?Would like to hear your opinion on this one :)
