decrease blood flow within the brain
may cause vasodilation which increases cerebral blood flow and intracranial pressure
CVS
Volatile drugs decrease mean arterial pressure either via myocardial depression or vasodilation
decreasing of preload and afterload can take place
a dose-dependent decrease in arterial blood pressure
drugs can also depress normal cardiac contractility
renal
there is a decrease in GFR and urine flow and can also cause decreased renal blood flow
hepatic
decrease in portal vein blood flow
persistent elevation in liver enzymes especially in Halothane
uterus
potent uterine relaxant
can also increase uterine bleeding after delivery of the baby
respiratory
bronchodilation
airway irritation
decrease in tidal volume and an increase in respiratory rate
all volatile drugs are respiratory depressants
Major acute toxicities of inhalation anesthetics :
nephrotoxicity
hematotoxicity
malignant hyperthermia
hepatoxicity
nausea and vomiting
