Music and holistic development

Study unit 1 has taught me about the value of music for the holistic development of foundation phase learners, before going further i would like to define the term holistic development.  Holistic development refers to the development of intellectual, mental, physical, emotional and social abilities in a child.  According to study unit 1 it is important for learners to experience music activities as it will promote their holistic development, when learners engage in music activities they have the opportunity  for cognitive development, physical development, social development, personal development and also emotional development, therefore as a future teacher it is important for me to teach music activities.  This study unit is very helpful to me as a future teacher as  it is preparing me to  develop a better understanding of students cognitive level because they express themselves through music. It is very important to use music activities before you start a lesson as it will help learners to relax.
