From study unit 1 I learnt the value of music in the development of foundation phase as well as the importance of music.
I have learnt that music activities especially moving to music (dancing) and playing instruments promotes physical development. Through engagement in music activities foundation phase learners also have opportunities for cognitive development. Music education enhances attentiveness, multitasking and promotes both numeracy and literacy skills. When learners make music with their peers they have an opportunity to engage in social interaction. Music activities such as ensemble playing, singing in groups, moving in groups and playing together foundation phase learners can foster relationships and possibly form new relationships. When foundation phase learners experience music activities, they have the opportunity to develop personally. Learners experience success in music education when they are able to successfully participate in music activities with their peers. This experience contributes to learners gaining confidence and believing in themselves and their abilities to be creative and make music with others. I also learnt that when learners experience music with various moods, they learn to identify various emotions. they also learn to express these emotions provoked by music which in turn supports them in learning to identify and express their own emotions appropriately. Through engagement in music activities with others, they also learn to be sensitive to the emotions of others which consequently could lead to improved empathy and emotional intelligence.
In conclusion, i learnt that music is very important for the holistic development of foundation phase.
