Hi, LSKM family, I sit here today and type this with a heavy heart, this will be my last blog post, to think of it I really enjoyed the idea of “blogs”, it provided me with opportunities, to converse and intellectually dissect the content of LSKM. My blogging time was always quiet and relaxed and I also the blogs as an opportunity to vent!! I would like to thank each LSKM member for actively engaging in my blog and for the forum discussions that have indeed, helped me grow as an upcoming teacher. My week has been pretty crazy in fact this entire semester has been crazilyyy, busy!!!. But Im glad that we are almost done for this year, can you ever believe that we are half way through this degree!!

And I loved, loved this module and LSKM has really started many growth spurts in my academic life as well as my personal life.

Above all else I made meaningful friendships through LSKM blogs, forum discussions and group assignments.

1)My very own Lskm Story.

Personally, I’ve always loved and enjoyed music, throughout my life. I jump at any opportunity to slide to the dance floor, ‘’Tiktok” is my new dance platform hahaha!

At the beginning of the semester, I was very excited about the content that LSKM had to offer, however although I loved music, I never fully understood the educational bedrock of which music is founded on. I just enjoyed the beat and playing basic instruments such as the piano and guitar. If I had to compare the knowledge that I have absorbed from this module!!!THE ONLY WORD SUITED BEST TO DISCRIBE IT IS “EXTRAAAORDINARY””. I feel that I am adequately equipped with skills, that will empower me to be an exciting and musically sound educator in the near future.

2) what did I learn from your own individual reflections?

Firstly, I learnt how to blog, this was my first blogging experience so far, I am now able to blog and I find it pretty interesting. I have learnt to critically analyze the content of the lskm  module, and then answer, in my own opinion what I learnt and felt, I learnt that there are many ways, in  which music can be understood .The most important aspect of  the individual reflections was that, my blog “forced” me to keep a schedule and by keeping a schedule, I was always on par with study units and the content that it offered and ultimately, I am can proudly say, that I can start  my own personal blogging site one day, and I can implement blogging systems in my classroom, and that I  now possess  a sound academic understanding of music.

What did you find challenging?

I did not find anything challenging about blogging, I thoroughly enjoyed working through each study unit and then reflecting on it. Blogging time was my relaxing time, where I could unwind and thoroughly enjoy what I am doing. I also enjoyed reading posts and blogs of other members of the lskm family,

Did you find the individual reflections meaningful?

Yes, I did the individual reflections very meaningful, I enjoyed reading my follow colleges blogs, I enjoyed the diversity and different opinions and suggestions. I enjoyed the fact that each one could read reflect and introspect on the thoughts and the “drama” of our lives.  Reading and commenting on the reflections kept me busy and continuously learning. I loved the idea that I could relay my brutally honest opinions, without any judgements, and I loved the idea that through my individual reflections, I made lots of memories, that I hold closely to my heart.

What would you change in you had the opportunity in the future?

I would not change a thing about the blogging factor, it was such a relaxing task for me personally. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my blogging post!! I enjoyed reading the different opinions and perspectives of other fellow lskm bloggers.

3)what did you find interesting and meaningful?

Honestly, I found every bit of information in the lskm module interesting, but what stood out for me was the numerous benefits that music has in the lives of young children and adults as well, The reason I can say that music helps adults too, is that when I studied for a subject that I felt overwhelmed in, I played calming music, and amazingly, the music helped me memorize the information at a faster pace and I felt absolutely calm , while studying.. Examples of better retention I was blown away that music helps stimulate higher cognitive levels. I loved the concept of learning through music, learning with music and learning in music, study unit four, enabled me to integrate music both implicitly and explicitly into activities. I loved the idea of our new LSKM assignment 4, it inculcated me to be creative in my thinking and order processes, I can successfully say, that as a teach in the near future, I am fully equipped with skills and strategies to ensure that music is never ever neglected and seen as unimportant.

What challenged you, and what do you still struggle to understand?

I personally found, learning through music, with music and in music abit difficult to understand at the beginning of the semester, however after in-depth study and understanding. I am proud to say that I  fully understand that concept. One of the other concepts that I found abit tricky, was understanding how to read music, and recognize the types variety of notes, for example whole notes, half notes, quarter notes etc, however I am still on my educational journey in understanding how to read music. Lastly, discovering and practicing music elements, such as rhythm, beat etc, took me extra time to implement and understand, finally I am proud to state that I am now fully able, to execute, practice and implement most musical aspects, into my daily life and soon in my very own classroom.

What didn’t you find valuable for the future teaching practice?

I found every aspect that was included int the LSKM extremely valuable, each aspect led me to critical thinking and implementation. I can honestly say that through studying the Elements of the LSKM module, I will be 99.9% efficient in my music classroom. Aspects that stood out for me was the implicit and explicit manner in which music can be integrated into a classroom. As Miss Francis made mention, that teachers don’t always have enough time to incorporate a full music lesson, into the class, due to time constraints. I have learnt that music can be integrated in creative various strategies. Such as classroom routines, games, and transitions. So overall, EVERY ELEMENT WAS BENEFECIAL TO ME.

As I draw to the end, this is my final post. I would firstly like to Thank Miss Rina Francis, for such a stimulating and interesting module and for always going an extra mile to keep us on track. I would like to thank the LSKM family, for each one of their contribution’s. I wish you all a safe, happy and well rested summer break!!
