After i have read Study unit 1, I learned that Music plays an essential role in the Foundation Phase learners. A holistic development is an approach to learning that emphasises the importance of the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of children, particularly in their early childhood. A holistic approach motivates learners to learn more about a particular subject. For example, When children goes to school they already have the ability to sing or dance. So, if the teacher use music in learning and teach them to sing or sing for them it become easier for them to learn and understand the content better. I also learned about the three theories namely the Erikson's stages of psychosocial development, Piaget's cognitive development theory, Vygotsky and the zone of proximal development which draws focus to the influence of social interaction and relationships whereby learners foster relationships with their peers.
Music instils curiosity and it allows children to learn naturally and creatively. Through music learners enjoy the lesson much better and they will use the rhythm to remember what they have been taught in the classroom. However, the rhythm abilities include clapping hands, tapping and also the area of coordination and music reading.
Lastly, The holistic development is not only about mental development but it include psychological, social and emotional growth.
