Study unit 1-  Individual Reflection.

Hello Dude

Hellooooooooooo Lskm family !!!!

  1. Would you please describe your confidence in your current knowledge and skills to teach music through movement in the Foundation Phase as you start your LSKM 221 journey? In your answer, please also refer to your confidence to integrate music into your teaching practice currently.

My confidence, well I could describe my level of confidence as “slowly learning, but indeed more learning coming!!!”. In the work that I have gone through so far, is intriguing to me, however I do feel a bit overwhelmed in a sense where I question myself “would I be able to put the knowledge I have into actions”. I am generally a shy person of nature, but I’m sure that ill be able to shake that off soon enough. I aim in applying all of the skills that LSKM has equipped me with, to ensure that learners that I someday teach, will be developed holistically. I will also take it upon myself, to engage in extra study time, to ensure that I am fully capable.

  1. I f you have to choose between incorporating Music education OR Physical education in the Foundation Phase curriculum to meet the holistic development needs of learners, which would you choose? In your answer, please explain which would be the best choice to ensure the opportunity for the holistic development of the learner and motivate your answer.

2)I would choose incorporating music education into my phase curriculum. Taking into-consideration the benefits of music education, and the holistic development that if offered to learners. My choice is supported by the fact that music offers development in language and mathematical reasoning, learners in the foundation phase are young and being exposed to music in their early years of life will enable development in areas of the brain which are stimulated by sound, this in turn will develop the left side of the brain, that is responsible for reasoning and language. Music creates a very exiting atmosphere in a classroom, this in turn will alleviate any issues of being bored. Music education is also said to have benefits of memorisation, Learners will constantly be listening to music and ultimately, improving their memory which is a skill, that will benefit them beyond the classroom. Music education will initiate dance, this will give rise to children being able to improve their motor and co-ordination skills, also playing musical instruments during class activities will also improve motor skills and eye co-ordination. The inclusion of music education will also cater for emotional development of the children, children listening to happy songs, enable them to feel bursts of happiness throughout their day, it also enables them to remain happy in cases of unhappiness, such as fights, disagreements etc.  educational music development t also enables students to practise new vocabulary and stimulates the imaginattion of children.

Signing off.
