Heyy everyone!

Is it just me or is it scary to think it is almost Christmas!!! We are almost 3rd year students.

LSKM really taught me a lot this semester about the development of learners in terms of music and making it part of the class and teaching methods and even how make it part of other subjects in a very fun way. This has made me look with other eyes to music in education and why it is so important. Being able to learn that music is a component in the learning process and developmental process.

Completing the blogs made me realize all the different types of people we have in our group and how each one incorporate, learn work and how each one makes an effort with the blogs. It helped me get new ideas of incorporating music and learn new ideas.

It was a challenge to summarize all the work because I found a lot of points really important and some points should be in each teacher to do, a teacher will only benefit for it and it will help them to become the best they can be. It will also ensure all the necessary work is handled and it is done correctly.

I would have liked it if there was a little more practical examples of what is learned and how to make it part but in a practical manner.

I really enjoyed that each student was open to opinions and content and all of them was ready to help and to answer questions.

Lovely week for all.

Study unit 5

Helloo everyone!

Study unit 5 is one interesting unit that taught me a lot When working through the unit I saw how important a lesson plan is. I understand how to identify and assess suitable assessment strategies for music as segment of life skills in the foundation phase. I realize of how to be able to include music, games and art integration when planning a lesson for life skills. I saw how to assess and apply different teaching methods when planning a music lesson and how to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the basic structure of a good lesson. I was learned what to keep in mind when planning a lesson.

A few concepts and elements stood out for me in this study unit like the characteristics of a well-planned music lesson. I found is very interesting to learn about that. The whole study unit really taught me very much, I learned a lot of new skills to be able to plan a music lesson to the best of my abilities. Now after this study unit I really understand the introduction stage up to the end of the conclusion phase.

There is a variety of reasons why assessment is neglected in the Performing Arts and Music in the Foundation Phase. Some of the reason I can think of is:

  • There is not always enough time to prepare a well-planned lesson for arts and music.
  • Sometimes there isn’t time during a day to do arts or music.
  • There is a lack or resources at the school that makes it difficult for the teacher and the kids.
  • Teachers don’t know how important music and arts really is for kids, they take that for advantage and just don’t do it because then they have more time for maths or the home language.

My perception and priorities regarding lesson planning and inclusion of music and arts has changed, because now I know how important it is. Lesson planes make it for the teacher easier to make sure all the necessary work is covered and that the kids know the must know work. I also learners that music and arts play a huge roll in a learners live and it helps them to discover themselves and that they express themselves easier through art or music. I will definitely make sure when I become a teacher that music and performing arts is included in the Foundation Phase.

This semester is also almost done can you believe it?

Till next time.
