Hi everyone...

I think we can all agree that it was a long couple of weeks we had to work through. Not having much time, missing some tests. But we always get through and this was no exception. I did however enjoy study unit 3 very much. I believe in the power of play in a child's life and understand the importance there of.

Play in the foundation phase:

Play is very important to a learner's development. It is one of the most important part of a learner's Early Years Foundation Stage and supports their learning journey. They can develop skills through play. They may develop language skills, emotions, creativity and social skills.

Play in the foundation phase is child-directed. Play allows learners to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, physical/cognitive/emotional strength. Play is very important to healthy brain development.

There are 7 types of play:

  • Attunement play
  • Body play & movement
  • Object play
  • Social play
  • Imaginative & pretend play
  • Storytelling-narrative play
  • creative play

There is 5 stages of play:

  • Unoccupied play (0-3 months)
  • Solitary play (0-2 years)
  • Onlooker play (2 years)
  • Parallel play (2+ years)
  • Associative play (3-4 years)
  • Cooperative play (4+ years)
