Although some learners had a problem with the learning activities, I thought it was a fun and interesting way for the rest of the students to learn. I think the main reason why learners would feel uncomfortable during these activities is that it is new to them. One of the learners was not happy with the Zulu song, due to the fact that they did not understand what they were learning and how to pronounce the words. A way to deal with this problem is to first teach children the meaning of the words in the song and tell them what it is about, before only teaching them the song itself. This way, learners will understand what they are learning/singing and they will also find it more interesting.
One of the girls in the class felt uncomfortable dancing in front of the boys in class and also wasn't comfortable with the fact that it was house music due to religious reasons. I would address this situation by saying sorry to the little girl and telling her that I am proud of her for standing up for herself. To prevent this from happening again, I would ask the learners before doing an activity like this if they are comfortable with it and if they would rather not participate.
To accommodate diverse learner profiles in classrooms I would make learners feel safe to live out their culture and do what they believe is right. I will have classroom discussions where students will feel safe talking about who they are. By doing this, learners will understand their peers and can learn to respect them and me as teacher will know exactly where the children come from and how to deal with situations in the future.
