Study unit 3

Hi bloggers, I hope you guys are all doing well, and everybody is safe and sound, and keeping their head above water, so this week, we’ve all submitted our lskm assignment 2, lets hope for the best. Guess what????

High Five BeeLove Broccoli

WE ARE ALMOST HALF WAY THROUGH THIS SEMESTER!!!, I Hope you all are keeping the midnight oil burning.

I have a funny story to tell before I get down to LSKM business, so today I go shopping and there was this old man, walking past me with a can of beans, he somehow slipped, and the can of beans fell on my foot!! Funny but SORE!!!! SO Moving onto study unit 3

  • What possibly made some learners uncomfortable during these activities?

Learners could feel uncomfortable due to the fact, that they are not used to dancing Infront of others, or simply because they have a low self-esteem, or they don’t know how to dance or they are grown up in conservative families that don’t propagate dancing in their culture. This game could have possibly went against the rules their culture/ religion or parents have set our for them. Some children probably lack a father or father figure in their lives, and probably felt sad while listening to this song. Children were not exposed to house music therefore they do not know how to respond when this type of music is being played.

  • Why were some learners uncomfortable?
  1. Some learners were uncomfortable, because they did not understand the Zulu song Amapiano.
  2.  Some learners come from cultures and religions that do not permit dancing at all or dancing amongst the opposite gender .

Can you think of ways to address these issues in future? What will you change?

  1. I will choose a song that has several languages it in so that all children can understand.
  2. I will pose the question to learners that students who feel uncomfortable dancing with boys, may form a group with only girls.’
  3. I will also state that if any student, is not permitted to dance due to religious or cultural reasons they are more than welcome to read a story, book, or just simply watch the rest of the students dancing.

  • How can we accommodate diverse learner profiles in our classrooms? What must we beware of?
  1. Create activities that all children feel comfortable participating in.
  2. Choose culturally and religiously permitted activities for specific children
  3. We as educators have to ensure that all students feel comfortable.
  4. Ensure that all children fare accommodated for.
  5. It is of paramount importance to accept diversity and give learners the option whether they would like to participate or not.
  6. I will draw up a weekly roster doing a different game with different languages, so that all languages are catered for
  7. Mondays- African- indigenous music.
  8. Tuesdays- classical music
  9. Wednesday- modern day child applicable music
  10. Thursday- could be a specific religious song.

Please feel free to comment!!

Until the next blog, bloggers!!!!

Hi Jesmiel, so sorry to hear about your foot- hope it heals quickly !!

I really enjoyed your post. I never thought about learners feeling uncomfortable dancing due to having a low self-esteem. This is very mindful to remember in the future. I will definitely keep your tips in mind when accommodating my learners in the future.

I found your post very insightful. Well done xxx
