1.The types of kinetic applies for alcohol in the body is that after the ingestion of alcohol or ethanol is rapidly and completely absorbed. The drug is then distributed to most body tissues and its volume of distribution is equivalent to that of total body water(0.5 to 0.7L/Kg)
2.The liver metabolizes up to 85% to 98% of the circulatory ethanol. The liver uses two metabolic processes to get rid of this circulatory ethanol as quickly and safety as possible. The first one is alcohol dehydrogenase system followed by microsomal ethanol oxidizing system(MEOS) . The alcohol dehydrogenase(ADH) low to moderate amount. limited amount of NAD(co-enzyme): zero order kinetics 7-10g/h. The microsomal ethanol oxidizing system(MEOS) takes place in higher concentrations which is >100mg/dL. MEOS activity increases with chronic use, can be induced, partially responsible for tolerance. The end product isĀ acetaldehyde.
3. The drugs that can affect this metabolism are : disulfiram ,metronidazole ,cephalosporins ,hypoglycemics. These drugs inhibit aldehyde dehydrogenase
