Reflection:

I believe that music is magical it can bring joy, smile in a sad face. As a foundation phase teacher I love to take part in music even outside in my spare time and I am patient, willing to learn more about music. As I read about this study unit 1 I realized that music is important for the developmental skill of a child.

Study unit 1

Part 1- Vygotsky's developmental theory is basic on the socio-cultural factors that influence cognitive development of a child. This developmental emphasis social interaction and language development. Vygotsky's said that children learning needs and developmental stage  without social environment as well as the influence of social factors on a personal level into consideration. Therefore, Vygotsky's social-cultural view of cognitive development emphasis the interaction between individual and their environment. (Schunk, 2016, Woolfolk, 2016).  Vygotsky believe that culture development and thinking transmitted through symbols tools like language, counting and writing. therefore this theory emphases that role of adults and peers in a child's learning is important. Its also important to motivate collaborative learning and peer scaffolding in the classroom and the teacher must take control as a facilitator of knowledge ( Woolfolk, 2016).

Part 2 -

(i)  Erikson developmental theory focus to the influence of social interaction and on learning.  this theory believe that foundation phase learners are at the fourth stage of industry vs, inferiority  (ages 5-11). As foundation phase educators , we therefore, have an important role to play in our our learners lives to provide the sufficient extrinsic motivation and encouragement with fostering feelings of competence, self-esteem and confidence.

(ii) Paige's theory development emphasis that notion that children learn by interacting with the world and they build new knowledge on existing skills. According to Piaget's foundation phase children fall between both pre-operational stage ( age 2-6) and concrete operational stage (age 7-11).

(iii) Vygotsky ability develop their thinking abilities during challenging situations through carefully planned and guided support from the teachers and peers.
