  • My name is Kayla Adams and I am from sunny South Africa. I currently live in a small beach town called Ballito in KwaZulu-Natal which is on the east coast of South Africa. I was born in Pretoria and moved to Ballito when I was 8 years old. I attended the only local government primary school and then went to Crawford North Coast High School.
  • I've known since my Grade R graduation that "When I grow up, I want to be a Foundation Phase teacher". I enjoy working with children and helping them to reach their full potential. I believe that a teacher plays an extremely important role in the development of a child. It brings me great joy that I have the privilege of making an impact in a young person's life.
  • I am passionate about my Faith in Jesus Christ; spending quality time with family and friends; making healthy habits such as exercising and the correct food choices and working with children.
  • I am excited to learn about the content of LSKM 221. It took me a while to get on top of everything and figure out what is expected of me this semester. It seems like an engaging and interactive module which I am excited about.
  • My expectations of this module is to learn and understand the development of Foundation Phase learners and what role a teacher needs to play in a child's development. I also want to learn about different music in different cultures so that I can ensure to include and accommodate all my learners.

I hope you learned something about me. Look forward to reading all your blogs smiley

Hellllooo blogging family!!

Who's excited for the long weekend ;) How crazy was that hail storm yesterday??? I don't know where you all live but I live in Ballito and it went all dark and then started hailing. Was pretty cool since it never hails here...

Anyway back to the topic! I found Study Unit 4 really interesting and informative. I learned about the importance of integrating art; how to effectively integrate art into other subjects and the benefits that art has on the learners.

1. Art integration is giving the learners an opportunity to take what they have learned or understood from the content and express it in an artistic way. This can be done through music, dance, or art. Art promotes various skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, experimental learning, and learning how to work together with their peers. Art helps to engage the learners and capture their attention as the lessons become fun and arent taught in a traditional structured boring way.  The benefits of art include

  • Reading and language development
  • Mathematics
  • Cognitive skills
  • Improved social behavior
  • Positive school environment

The benefits prove the importance of integrating art and should be a non-negotiable factor.

2.1. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the YouTube Videos and learning how music can be effectively integrated into a math lesson. It felt as if I was in the classroom observing the lesson rather than reading about ideas on integrating music. It really helped to put it into perspective. To be honest, I underestimated the benefits of art and learned how important and beneficial it is to the learners. I will definitely incorporate these ideas and strategies into my future classroom.

2.2. The topic I found the most challenging was the 'development through teaching and learning. I found it confusing and didn't really see a difference between the ways that music can be used in the classroom.

Overall, I would say that this was my favorite study unit !!

Enjoy your short week

SEE YA SOON
