Part 1

This last week has been quite calm, nothing to complain or talk about really. We had lots of sport at our school, and it was so nice seeing all the little kids in your happy place, playing the sport they love. I worked on all my assignments and test and just enjoyed my work and my daily life.

Part 2

In this module we learn a little bit more about the finer details of music. Music is so much more than just listening to some music on your phone. After I have learned a little bit more about the elements of music I kind of see music in a different light than what I did before I learned about the elements. I have learned to listen to music with more meaningful attention and to actually understand what I am hearing.

Part 3

Before this module I was unaware of how to read music notes and symbols and now I can identify different music notes. The activities in this SU is very important seeing as in Study Unit 1 be saw how important music is as well as the advantages of music and the impact it has on the students during their childhood.

If we look at some of the questions at the end of this SU -

It is so important to include elements of play in as many teaching and learning activities as possible in the Foundation Phase because children learn through play. Just imagine a kid in your classroom sitting there just busy writing and doing sums the entire day, they will be bored out of their minds and they won't be learning anything, but give them the exact same activity and sums to do but in the form of a game that they can play and you will immediately see a difference in their work.

Here is a few ideas of how in include play in your daily routine - when it is time to introduce a new topic try and make learning fun and adventurous. Instead of describing a new topic, let the students use their imagination to try and visualize that they are right in the middle of what you are trying to teach them. You can also 'Act it out' make it a little bit more fun for you and the children. It will make your day and I promise it will make their day a whole lot better.

There is 7 basic elements of play -

  1. Play involves a state of mind and disposition - In order for a child to play and actually have fun while playing they have to have a sense of imagination, they have to be playful, to explore and have fun.
  2. Play contains elements of surprise and challenge - To surprise or to be surprise is a very important role when it comes to playfulness. Surprise is a process and structure of learning and is very important when it comes to the development of a child.
  3. Play involves a process, attitude, and structure - In order for children to play effectively they have to follow a certain set of rules (who may play, when and where they may play, how to take turn ect.)
  4. Play is voluntary and unifying, forming part of the socialising process - No one is forced to play, if you want to play you accept the rules and you play with others.
  5. Play involves aesthetic quality judgement by participants - The way children play can teach them a lot! If there is rough play that will teach the children to behave accordingly. It is also important to see how they will react if they do not get chosen for a game.
  6. Play creates informal space for socio-historical comment - Play helps to take that line away that separates young and old, rich and poor, strong and weak.
  7. Play reinforces societal roles - Children play games in which they play the roles of adults.
  8.
