Art integration : is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form (Silverstein & Layne, 2010). It promotes teaching and learning strategies which address outcomes in various subjects simultaneously. It also encourage learners to demonstrate their understanding of contents and skills through arts. It helps learners with engagement, experiential learning , authentic learning strategies, collaborative learning, problem solving skills and reflections. When we choose to apply arts integration principles in the foundation phase, we need to engage learners in teaching and learning activities which encourage them to draw on their prior knowledge with the aim of discovering new concepts and skills and to demonstrate their understanding in a practical way through the arts ( Silverstein &Layne, 2010).The use of the arts in the classroom has been shown to increase student motivation and improve academic progress and socialization. Teachers can integrate music with any subject. The teacher can create their own rhymic patterns by using hands or anything that can be usable. For integrating music with English, the teacher can play or sing a song to learners then ask them to write stories about it. That can enhance their vocabulary and listening capacity.
