1. In the beginning of the semester I thought I had enough knowledge regarding teaching music in the foundation phase, my personal skills I would say have been improved throughout the semester, I have changed a lot in my class, especially when and where to integrate music in my lessons. I really enjoy music so I was very excited to start this module, I enjoyed it so much and I kept on being surprised as to how much new knowledge I gathered throughout the semester. This module has shown me how important music education really is and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn new things in a fun and creative way.
2. I learnt a new way of studying module content; this manner is creative and very personal, it allows me to obtain important information and knowledge much easier than writing tests etc. My individual reflections have allowed me to express my understanding and knowledge in a way that is personal and unique. This process has also given me the opportunity to engage with students and see their feelings and point of views.
I didn't really find anything challenging except for this style of writing does not come naturally in the studying environment; you tend to write in a formal manner without realizing it, so I needed to change my thinking and writing process quite a bit, but I must say it has been a blast and I really loved this method of learning the content of this module.
Yes, my individual reflections were very personal and I always tried to speak from my heart rather than just paraphrasing information; also to read other peoples comments and point of views really showed purpose, I learnt a lot about myself and of other people, which really shows the importance of involving personal opinions and experiences into a module.
In future I would probably have added more things to make it more personal, I love writing and journaling, I would have added doodles and handwritten texts just to show my personality and character.
3. I found the integration of music in other subjects fascinating, different styles and techniques a teacher can use to ensure that everyone obtains the knowledge of music in a more personal and learner-centered approach. What was meaningful to me is the fact that music accommodates everyone regardless of cultural background, belief systems and demographics; music creates a platform to really enable children to engage and learn important skills and assets that they would not have mastered without the integration of music. There was not really any challenges in this module, I am a very musical and artsy person, so I really enjoyed this module and I gained valuable knowledge and information that will help me become the best teacher I can and want to be. I would not change anything regarding the content of this module, everything I learnt can be applied to my future teaching practice and the cool things is that this does not only apply to music it applies to all subjects taught in the foundation phase. This module is very interesting and the information and knowledge I gained is very valuable to me, so I would not change anything.
This was a wonderful opportunity to express myself, engage with people all over the country, understand the importance of different cultures South Africa has to offer, and most importantly respecting everyone's creative process and beliefs.
I hope you guys are enjoying the last stretch of this semester, good luck and just remember you've got this ;) All the best and I hope you all enjoyed this module as much as I did:)
