Modernization theory is an approach to understanding how traditional or underdeveloped societies transform to modern societies. It is also believed that the increase in technology will make all nations wealthy, and poor nations can follow the paths wealthier, modernized nations took. Modernization theory focuses on rich and developed countries and it is also believed that the richer countries are a solution to the problem of poverty.

The Dependency theory is an approach to understanding the economic development of a country in terms of external influences like political, economic and cultural effects on national development policies. Some nations become rich at the expense of other nations, especially through colonization. This theory is mainly focused on poor and underdeveloped countries as well as richer countries are believed to be the cause of global poverty.

The similarity between the Modernization theory and the  Dependency theory  is that they both talk about the breach between the developed and developing countries. Both these theories express that  because of high development in the Western nations they stand apart as world leaders, which impacts every one of the aspects and spheres of life in the event that we examine it for all intents and purposes , covering economic, social , political and cultural lives as well.
