It's been hectic weeks, having to take leave for teaching practicals, and with so many assignments and test due it's been challenging to keep up,However I've learned that play is the most crucial part in the Foundation phase classroom. In this past weeks I've been at the school I've met different kind of children and I got to meet the ones who were referred to as being the slow group and what I've learned about this group is that they love singing and dancing especially if we're in the middle of a lesson they try to lose concentration then we sing and get their attention back to the lesson.
In this study unit the three types of play were the key aspects on getting play into the music education setting,I've learned that to incorporate lesson's with play, singing and dancing it is the best thing you could ever do for the children and it eases the pressure from you because sometimes it is challenging to meet all the learners requirements. However I've seen that there are those learners who become uncomfortable when having to dance in front of the class, but as days went by I've seen a huge change the were enjoying the singing activities and they gradually joined and gained confidence.
When thinking of the value of play it takes us back to the different kind of play, whereby we have free play were learners choose with what materials they want in their games, then we have guided play were the teacher chooses specific materials which learners can play with as to guide their discovery and lastly the directed play which involves the teacher instructing learners how to accomplish a given task.
