interpreting people differently and drawing conclusions about them based on our perceptions rather than their actual nature

This is for you if you are aware that in the past, you saw people based on your ideas rather than their true selves.

I've always had my own preconceptions and a "othering" mentality wherein I would make assumptions about the personalities, lifestyles, and characteristics of particular people. However, after reading, watching, and watching TED talks, I realized that it can be risky to reflect on your own perspectives without first understanding them.

In her TEDTALK, Chichamanda Ngozi discussed the tragedy of a single story, stating that it breeds stereotypes, which in turn lead to the creation of incomplete narratives about individuals.

additionally, based on Necirema's story, I get the impression that everyone has unique ways of doing things and that nobody should be forced to judge others based on their beliefs or behaviours.

The overview of Mallence Williams' TEDTalk suggests that although non-Westerners perceive Africa as impoverished, the continent is actually rich in minerals. Furthermore, the West is adamant that our continent needs their aid, even though they claim that the aid comes from the poorest continent; this illustrates how people's perceptions of other people are framed rather than the actual facts of the situation.
