The story creator stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they aren't true, but that they are incomplete. A single story is a one-dimensional perspective on something that is quite complex. It is a misinterpretation of reality. It is a misinterpretation of reality. STEREOTYPES
When people think of Africa, they think of violence, poverty, AIDS, uneducated people, hopelessness and corrupt government. Also they believe on that African they depend on hunting in order to get food and eat raw food. Also see Africa as undeveloped country because of belief that they have about Africa countries.
Adichie was reading foreign book and she was convinced that the book had to be about things that she could never identify with. Her roommates was surprised that she spoke English. She expected that she wouldn't know how to speak English because she is African . She was expected to hear tribal music from her side not what she heard.
Adichie explain a story of her parent's live-in domestic help, who her parents only described as poor on occasions. After finally gotten the chance to visit the domestic help's home and saw that his family can made "beautiful pattern basket". She realized that everybody in this home have beautiful talent. She said " all i heard about them was how poor they were, so the poverty was my single story for them".
CONCLUSION
We can see that stereotype has made people feel vulnerable or rejected by other humans because at their belief towards them. Also not make assumption about something that you never seen or experienced. All you need to work on finding a different perspective of the story.
