Anthropology is a field that delves deep into the study of human societies, cultures, and behaviors. It seeks to understand the intricacies of human existence by examining the rituals, practices, beliefs, and customs that shape different communities around the world. One of the fundamental principles of anthropology is the idea of "making the strange familiar, and the familiar strange." This concept encourages us to challenge our preconceived notions and biases about other cultures while also recognizing the uniqueness and diversity that exist within our own.

As individuals, we all bring our own perspectives and experiences to the table. Our upbringing, education, and social interactions all play a role in shaping our worldview. 

The concept of community within my Swati culture is deeply ingrained in our daily lives. We are taught from a young age that we are interconnected with our families, neighbors, and larger community. The well-being of the group is prioritized over individual desires, and decisions are often made with the collective good in mind. This communal mindset has instilled in me a sense of responsibility towards others and a strong belief in the power of collaboration and support.

Additionally, the reverence for ancestral traditions in the Swati culture has had a significant impact on how I view the world. We are taught to honor and respect our elders, to learn from the wisdom of those who came before us, and to preserve our cultural heritage for future generations. This emphasis on tradition has taught me the importance of history, heritage, and continuity and has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the richness of our cultural practices.

In sharing my thoughts with a classmate and engaging in a discussion about the familiarity and strangeness of my beliefs, I am confronted with my own biases and prejudices. It is important for me to critically reflect on how my cultural background influences my perceptions and to challenge myself to view the world through a more open and inclusive lens. By engaging in these conversations, I am able to broaden my perspective, deepen my understanding of other cultures, and ultimately become a more informed and empathetic global citizen.
