As I wake up in the morning, each different day I attend many different tasks, however the mostly repeated task by myself in different days is to attend my classes at my university campus. Moreover, during the weekends, I do different tasks other than of weekdays. For example, the other day during the weekend, I attend my cousin's wedding, where I did participate in different tasks on a single day.
My essay will focus on events that happened during the wedding day of my cousin's wedding. Furthermore, the essay will extract events into social contexts of wedding day, such as arrival at the wedding, small chat with family members, Dress code and decorations, Welcoming of wedding ceremony, The arrival of bride and groom AND food catering
The wedding ceremony happened at the cousin (groom) homeplace, where the bride's family were also present. I went to the wedding ceremony with my two brothers. Moreover, I spent most of the time with my two brothers at the wedding ceremony, experiencing the events altogether with two of them
The wedding ceremony was tribal in the contemporary developed world. This is because the location of the bride's wedding was in suburb areas, although the wedding ceremony was of tribal communities. I agree with the statement of Gennep (1960), quoted by Turner (2008:01) saying if 'the context is tribal and religious, there's gods and spirits demands that must be appeased'. This is because at the tribal ceremony wedding there must be cultural scenes that are 'specifically' meant for the traditional wedding ceremony.
Arrival at the wedding ceremony
I was with two of my brothers when we arrived at the wedding ceremony, in which we were invited by our cousin (groom) 's family. It was before twelve middays when we arrived at the wedding ceremony, where we met some of our cousins also at the wedding. The bride, groom's family members and cousins were still having small different chats with each other before the welcoming of wedding ceremony. At the arrival of the wedding, I noticed that my cousin's family members were wearing traditional attires, and bride family members were wearing semi formal clothes understand, that wearing of different clothes attires by bride and groom family members is how the theme was set. Furthermore, traditional clothing attires by cousin (groom) family members is a way of practicing their culture belief in their family during wedding ceremonies. Moreover, according to their culture belief, wearing traditional attire at the wedding ceremony is to show approval to their ancestors that they fully agree for their daughter (groom) to be married.
Theis is because the 'groom' will now be welcomed at the other family, bride's family in which will make the groom the new family member of the bride's side family members. According to Gennep (1908:1960), a child crosses the threshold to adulthood and must overcome spiritual /psychic dangers through ritual. On this wedding ceremony context, Gennep's statement can be applied with the fact that at the wedding ceremony traditional attires by the groom's family members were used as symbol to show approval of wedding ceremony to their ancestors. Furthermore, there's a belief among their culture that, if cultural attire is not worn at the wedding ceremony, then there might be something going wrong with the wedding preparations.
Small chat with family members
After the arrival of myself and two of my brothers, we were occupied with the seats at the wedding ceremony. We were able to have a small chat with the cousins and family members before the welcoming of wedding ceremony. The conversation was more based on how personally we were still doing in our lives. The family members and the cousins were more concerned with the topics such as, how the wedding will unfold, and what to expect at the wedding and how beautiful decoration of the theme was at the wedding
Dress code and decorations
Only the bride and groom's family members had a specific dress code at the wedding, rather than that cousins and family friends were required to dress in normal clothing of their choice. Hence myself and two of my brothers came up with the idea of wearing similar clothing. This is because we wanted to have our unique appearance that will add to the wedding ceremony unforgettable moments. The decoration of table setup at the wedding was gold and black colour. The decorations of the tent that the wedding ceremony took place under was also black and gold colour. The balloons also matched the color of the table and tent setup. All of this mentioned here led to the most beautiful, decorated wedding I have ever attended.
The welcoming of wedding ceremony
One of the oldest groom's family members welcomed all the wedding ceremony guests with a word of appreciation. Furthermore, he elaborated on what brought all the guests together during that day, which was the wedding ceremony. He further explained how the wedding preparations were set up and which people will address the audience at the wedding ceremony. The oldest man address statement was more of Gennep (1964:91) 'rites de passage' as rites which accompany every change of place, state, social position and age. All these social structures were touched over at the wedding ceremony.
The arrival of bride and groom
The main event of the wedding ceremony was the arrival of the bride and groom at the wedding. They both came together holding each other's hand. The ululations started to go high by the audience of the wedding ceremony. By this time, every guest at the wedding ceremony seemed happy for the wedding celebration of the bride and groom. Both bride and groom set down at their specifically unique seats, which were sofas. This sofa was only meant for them as the main people of the wedding ceremony. Everyone took pictures of them, as to show indeed audience was happy for the uniqueness of the wedding ceremony
Food
After the celebrations of the wedding, the oldest family member offered the audience food to feast themselves as part of wedding celebrations. The most rememberable moment was when we as the audience at the wedding had to serve themselves food. We served ourselves the wedding ceremony food which was so delicious.
Closing of the wedding ceremony
Every guest enjoyed the closing of the wedding ceremony because the beverages were served as part of celebrations. Music was played loudly so everyone could enjoy themselves and dance. All guests met at the same building and danced altogether to show their excitement towards the wedding ceremony that has just took place
During the night, each night I am likely to do my home activities I received from my lectures before I go to sleep. Furthermore, when already done with activities I am likely to go to bed to sleep in order to rest for the next day as I had to attend my classes at campus. However, during the weekends I am likely to go out during the night, just to be with friends' company in order to enjoy the weekends in a fun way. Moreover, during the night of my cousin's wedding I went out to artists event in order to have fun with friends on night outings.
In conclusion, the wedding ceremony had different events that took place to make the wedding a successful event of that day. The wedding ceremony was a celebration, so with, it can be noted that all the guests, which were family members, cousins and friends, all enjoyed the wedding day of the ceremony. Furthermore, both bride and groom family members played crucial role on making the wedding ceremony successive event or ceremony.
Moreover, they played a crucial role by making sure all the guests occupied the seats and had enough food to eat after the wedding ceremony. Although the wedding was of tribal communities, all the guests felt welcomed at the wedding ceremony.
