The main purpose of Study Unit 1.1 was to develop an understanding of the scientific study of the universe and the Earth, along with all phenomena associated with them. Through this unit, I learned key concepts such as the Big Bang theory, the Milky Way Galaxy, the Solar System, and the Goldilocks zone. One of the most relevant topics was the shape of the Earth, the laws governing planetary motion, the movement of planets around the Sun, and the Earth’s distance from the Sun.
Several aspects of this unit were particularly interesting. Firstly, learning about the origin of the universe captured my attention. Secondly, discovering the different types of planets, their characteristics, and their classifications within the Solar System was fascinating. Thirdly, understanding the formation of the Sun and the Solar System was enlightening. Finally, learning about the Earth as part of the Goldilocks zone, with conditions just right to sustain life, was especially intriguing.
However, I found certain concepts challenging. The laws of planetary motion were difficult to fully grasp, as was the complex process behind the formation of all eight planets. Despite these challenges, this study unit sparked my curiosity and motivated me to explore more about astronomy in the future.
