Teaching 1: Ubuntu- Humanity Towards Others
In Xhosa culture, Ubuntu is fundamental concept to Humanity towards others. This teaches us to be humbled and being nice at all times. In overall most of us have empathy and compassion. Ubuntu has shaped my world view by teaching me approach challenges with a sense of collective responsibility. I believe that our individual achievements are hollow if they contribute to the great good. This belief has led me to contribute to the great good. This belief has led me to seek out opportunities for collaboration to listen actively and to prioritize building strong relationships within my community.
Teaching 2: Ingoma- The power of story telling
Ingoma is the Xhosa tradition of storytelling and oral history. It is a powerful tool for passing down wisdom sharing experiences and preserving our cultural heritage. Through Ingoma I've learned the importance of sharing our stories listening to our elders and honouring our ancestors. Ingoma influenced my world view by reminding me that our stories are our strengths, and our experiences are wisdom we pass on to future generations.
These two endogenous teaching Ubuntu and Ingoma have profoundly shaped my worldview as a Xhosa woman informing how I interact with others, approach challenges and understand my place within my community.
