Welcome to ALDE 111

ALDE 111 is a module in academic literacy and it is mandatory for all NWU students. The purpose of ALDE 111 is to assist you in the development of certain academic skills such as effective reading, writing, and conducting research. Therefore, in this module you are going to learn and develop the necessary skills to successfully process academic information, to be academically articulate, and to produce academic texts.

Please note that you have been identified as one of the students who have yet to complete this module and that a failure to complete the module could lead to you not graduating.

If you were told that you NEED NOT complete ALDE111, please refer to the NWU Yearbook. From this official document, it will be clear to you that ALL students, in ALL faculties need to complete ALDE111!

This site has been specially developed for you, our senior NWU-student. The entire module for this semester will be run from this site. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you understand exactly how to navigate this page, before attempting to start with any of the work.

We would like to suggest that your first port of call should be the Start here tab on the left-hand side of your screen (if you're on a PC), or under the "Tools" menu (if you're on a smartphone or tablet). Here you will find instructions on how to optimally use this specific site (there's even a video you can download if you're struggling). In addition to this nifty How-to-Guide you can also expect to find the following:

  • Prescribed material (including the reference guide)
  • Work schedules (including the assessment plan and work schedule for the semester)
  • General communicative arrangements

Only after getting together all of the details, materials and information you need to navigate the semester through this site, are you ready for your first bit of work.
Good luck!

Kind regards,
Your lecturing team
