Review of unit 5
Unit 5
What did I learn
I learnt that I have to make my academic writing formal by using the following important points: stay on the topic, don't be biased, write what I mean, mean what write, avoid redundancy, avoid ambiguous words, avoid using 'a research' in my writing, avoid contractions, pay attention to the appearance of my document, look out for homonyms, spell author's names properly, avoid direct quotes, and to use logical connectors for my paragraphs to follow smoothly from one paragraph to the next. Lastly I learnt that I need to perfect my introduction to be good for my reader to be interested in my writing and follow my writing easily and develop an argument in my writing that has no flaws.
Preview of unit 6
I learnt that that at the end of my writing I need to write a conclusion that ties together my argument, that provides a summary and concluding remarks of my writing. After completing my writing I need to edit to see if my writing has a logical flow to my argument and use the editing strategies to do so. It is also important to revise my writing to see if I have made mistakes regarding language and if my writing really makes sense. Lastly I learnt that after I have submitted my writing and my lecturer has marked it I need to use all the feedback that I got from my lecturer for my writing and incorporate it and use it for academic growth and development.
What I would like to understand more.
I would like to understand more on how to incorporate feedback for academic growth and personal growth.
Review: Unit 2
Topic: Processing and producing academic information-Finding sources
1. What have learnt about the topic?
I have learnt that in academic writing, one has to use variety and different types of sources when writing reports, assignments, projects and other academic writings, the most important thing is not only to use these sources but to understand and identify the difference between sources types, to know what relevant sources to use for my academic writing and to integrate them with my writing. I also learnt how to locate credible sources, check their credibility and use different referencing methods.
2.what I did or did not enjoy about the lecture?
I did not like the situation where us students did not do our homework, hence we missed out on what the lecturer had prepared for class because what she prepared was part of our homework, but I liked that she improvised the situation by giving us another work we did in class, so in a way we got to benefit something again.

Topic: Processing information-Using sources
1. What I know or have read about the topic?
What I know about the topic is that I need to process information by using reading strategies such as scanning and skimming through texts, this include using guidelines for these two strategies. I also know that I need to find main ideas and supporting ideas on texts for academic writing, this includes identifying the topic for a paragraph, the main idea for the paragraph, main idea sentence and paragraph structures. The other important method to read and write in academic writing is to use the PEEL method (Point, Explain, Examples and Link) and also to paraphrase ideas.
2. What I did not understand or what I would like to know more about the topic.
I would like to know more about writing the main idea of a paragraph, to know more about paragraph structure, use the PEEL method and paraphrasing ideas.

What I enjoyed about the lecture.
I enjoyed that our lecturer gave us work to do in class based on the topic we were dealing with (writing as a process-analyzing the topic) whereby she asked us to come up with a topic we want to explore and write an essay about as part of academic writing.

Comments.
I like the method of working in groups in class because I'm really learning a lot from my other group members, and by working together and getting assistance from our lecturer when we need it we are able to grow. This also gives us a chance to interact with our lecturer because we are working in smaller groups.
