I am a lecturer in the Shool of Accounting Sciences of the Potchefstroom Campus of the NWU and my discipline is Management Accounting on both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Although I am not necessarily an outdoors person, I love nature and animals while I also have an interest in art and cooking.
It was very interesting to learn about various summary techniques: harvesting, weaving, summarising; and holding questions.
I will certainly use the third the most; followed by weaving and harvesting. Especially weaving could be interesting to and relevant to highlight students' points of view (interpretation) and commenting on these viewpoints while highlighting important matters / errors / misconceptions.
I agree Sanlie. The 5 stages model is very informative and I will definitely keep that in mind in course facilitation.
Getting involved in forums and blogs etc, was initially a bit difficult for me (since I am a typical observer, checking this out before getting involved), but it became a bit easier later.
I found the first two stages (of Salmon) to be excellently addressed in this course, and consider myself to be in stage 3 as well at the beginning of stage 4 at this stage.
I have learnt a lot during this week - capabilities of a successfull facilitator; using and seeing the use of blogs and wikis (and forums to a certain extend). Using blogs and dsicussion forums hoewever, raises some concers in larger groups of even 50 plus students: I think it could become very time consuming to read through 150 to 200 posts and to keep tract on what is going on. Furthermore, it would not be possible to attend to all questions / discussions within a reasonable period of time (an hour or two; or maybe a day) due to other responsabilities and engagements.
I really look forward to learn strategies enabling the handling of large groups in forums and blogs.
