I think Music and art prepare young children, promote their skills development and gives them opportunity to solve problems on their onw. Music can help children to express their feelings and to control their mood. I have learned that children can be able to build new  friendship through play. Music gives learners an opportunity to engage with others and helps them to learn more new things.  They end up realizing  that they can make different sounds through their body parts. Music and art, gives learners an opportunity to accommodate each others culture and helps them to understand their difference and their way of doing things. Children  have their own way of understanding things, therefore music and art helps them to generally expand.

Most important aspects to keep in mind

When planning a lesson, you must always think about the purpose of the assessment and the significance of the peer scaffolding. Music can be performed in the beginning and also at the end of the lesson. Always direct learners to focus on the correct music elements and the movement they should follow during the music activity. During art and music integration, teachers must give learners an opportunity to bring new knowledge and skills on their own, give them opportunity to engage with one another in order to review their understanding and their experience. Learners must be given a chance to solve the  problem and must be encouraged to listen to the music.

The opinion about the value of utilizing art in foundation phase

Art and music helps learners to be more focused  and be able to manage their stresses. It encourages them to control themselves, develop physically, be knowledgeable, review, associate with one another and eventually grant with regards to their prosperity. In art integration we encourage learners to be creative and promote their skills development by giving them the activities the will demonstrate their understanding practically.

Perception and priorities

In the beginning I thought music was meant for fun to children, that is not the only thing. Learners can improve their skills development and promote their knowledge through music. They become focused and helps them to build up their creativity. Learners can be able to make friendships through art, they can engage with new thinking and much experiment. Encouraging learners to do things their own way gives them a opportunity and direction of revealing their new knowledge and creativity.

Promoting Arts integration  in Foundation phase encourage learners to showcase their understanding. Learners improve their skills through art integration. Learners express their feelings through music and visual arts. Through music, learners feel welcome and respected. During music play learners gain experience and opportunity to engage spontaneously. Teachers are can also play music and not rely on singing during music activities. Using different types of patterns will help learners development, they can ask learners to bring different patterns and the will improve learners creativity and their skill and will also increase the love of the subject. Children learn through play, therefore promoting music in the classroom will their attention and makes them feel loved. Children love singing, even at home they sing and dance alone and they surely brings the attention of promoting music in the classroom.

The value of musical play in  Foundation Phase

Introducing musical play in the classroom, more especially in Foundation Phase, it practically increases the learner's skills and help them solve the problem.I have learned that children learn through play, and music is the one of the best resource in teaching. Music helps children in controlling their emotions, they can be open and express their feeling through music.I didn't know that playing music in the classroom is acceptable I thought teachers can only sing but through this chapter I have gained knowledge. Learners learn more through music, they ended up knowing that they can use their body parts to make different sounds, and as a teacher you become creative because for your game to be fun and successful you need more elements that you can also make on your own. In the beginning when children sings at home, I thought they just like noise not knowing that is another way of their development. If you group them and provide empty tins as drums, make shakers with seeds and start singing and dancing with them, you will see the joy and happiness that comes from them. They will repeatedly ask you to do it to show that they have enjoyed and they will also learn the new words from the songs which improves their knowledge. Therefore introducing musical play in the classroom is not a waste of time but a privilege.

In this study unit I have learned about types of music in Foundation Phase, types of instruments and the music elements. Learners can express their emotion through singing. Children begin to understand what they can do with their bodies as they run, balance, stretch and skip. Children learn how certain emotions feel and sound by listening to different types of music. Music Develops children's Social and Emotional Skills.

Hi everyone

My name is Maggy Mokgata, coming from Tzaneen in Limpopo. I am a mother of two, a boy and a girl. I am a BED foundation phase student,  studying and working at the same time.

I have learnt different things from the three theories of Erickson,Piaget and Vygotsky. Erickson's stage of Psychosocial, during this stage, children strongly rely on feedback from peers, teachers and parents to feel honored and confident about their capabilities and achievements. Teachers have a huge role to play in our learners' lives as we should help them improve and trust themselves. In the  Cognitive development theory, Piaget thinks that children learn through interaction with others and they gain new knowledge through existing skills. Children are capable of imitating and they can pretend to be someone they are not and think differently. Vygotsky's Zone of proximal development  encourages teachers to particularly assist their learners, they are able to do their tasks on their own without any assistance, it is possible for them to find difficulties of completing their learning task even if they get assistance. Children use their understanding to express their prior knowledge and skills they have.  Teachers need to know their learners and their difficulties, on that note, they will be able to introduce the Scaffolding method of teaching to serve as problem solving .
