Final Blog:

10 Nov 2021, 18:18 Publicly Viewable

I am so ecstatic that this year and semester are finally coming to a close. It has been rough. I have been super stressed out, and on edge. I cannot wait to lay in the sun, on the beach, with a drink in hand while enjoying the sun. At this point, this vision is what is keeping me going. Between working, the extra lessons I give, my dance team, my boot camp, my studies, and life in general it all feels a bit overwhelming.

I have enjoyed this subject a lot. I loved that it was about how one can incorporate music into the classroom. I love music and whenever I get a chance to teach a class for the day or week, music is my go-to for fun, games, and learning.

I loved how we could blog for marks. This is like the easiest way to get marks ever, which I can’t fault and you learn when you reflect on what you thought about the study units, what you would or wouldn’t change, how you felt about things you were learning and how to incorporate music in many different ways. It was an eye-opener for things that I didn’t think about or come up with and it was such a cool topic!

In the individual reflections, I got to process my thoughts and understand each study unit more in-depth and so I learned about how I felt and how I understood the study units in more depth!

I found it hard to remember everything in depth and still incorporate my feelings. Sometimes it is hard to put emotion into subjects with content as it can be a habit when studying just to look at the facts and regurgitate them.

I liked the individual reflections and yes, I did find them to be really helpful. As I said earlier above, it has definitely aided my understanding and knowledge of the study notes we have to read through before writing the blogs.

I wouldn’t change anything which I learned, how I learned it and what transpired over this semester. At first, I was even late on my blog posts and had a complete panic station about it, but it all ended up okay. I learned that everything that is meant to be will be and not worry so much and rather do something about things that don’t go right in life. I loved the work as I said, I wouldn’t change a thing! I feel blessed with this varsity and lecturers as they are usually on point and so helpful, kind, and understanding and it’s all I could ever dream of. I definitely look at learning with a more musical approach now and I’m excited to take on my role as a teacher in a more musical way with the knowledge I have gained in this module!

Thank you so much for the lovely content from LSKM 221 and I hope that you have a lovely December holiday once you mark our last assignment 4! Sending happy thoughts, good vibes, and a warm goodbye to LSKM 221.

See you later! It was great chatting with you! Xx

The importance of assessment in the foundation phase in correlation with the performing arts and for what reasons it is sometimes neglected.

Hello friends. I hope you are all doing well! I am feeling super stressed. I have had assignment after assignment due these past few days as well as a dance show which I was in and we have been practicing every single day, for four hours each evening, for the past two weeks.

I have been so edgy and cannot wait for December 15th to arrive so that all the examinations, tests, and pressure are over with. Sometimes I feel like I have heart palpitations because of it all and I can’t actually take it. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night in fright that I have missed a test or assignment and my heart is beating and I am basically in a sweat about it all.

But anyways, that’s been my life for the past few weeks, and hopefully, yours has been much better! Let’s get to Study unit 5! The importance of assessment in the foundation phase in correlation with the performing arts and for what reasons it is neglected!

I think that the possible reasons why the assessments are often neglected according to the study unit, as well as general thoughts, are because there is a lack of performing arts teachers, some teachers do not perceive the performing arts as an actual subject that should be assessed, teachers may not necessarily have the knowledge on how to go about the assessments and the criteria in which they need to follow when assessing the performing arts, while these teachers may also have time constraints and subjects other than the performing arts tack priority in comparison and so no time is left for it and they may not also prioritize these performing arts assessments.

In order to change this dilemma on how teachers view the performing arts teachers in the performing arts would need to create an awareness by communicating and expressing the importance of the performing arts as a subject as well as the fact that this subject is equally as important as other subjects with many beneficial factors for learning and so the assessments, as well as the assessment criteria, will be just as important. The assessment criteria can then be explained and made available to those who are in need of a more in-depth explanation of it.

I hope you have an amazing evening! This is another requirement ticked off my list! Let’s hope I can get a better night’s sleep for it! Toodels!
