Hi bloggers,

 I  believe everything is fine,

Music  play in foundation phase.

We are taught how play can impact  music in the classroom. Play with music  can develop  many skills within  a learner which is vital important for musical  content. I have to  relate since well this takes me way back when I was a kid were we used to play outside our  homes  in groups  perfoming  a play that included  music.  I t was one of my favourite games,I liked the perfoming  and the singing part ...Wow that was fun,I cannot wait to teach learners in  future.

As a foundation phase teacher  I have to acknowledge the various levels  of  play, from  Freeplay          ( Learners  have choices to chose materials and games, Guided play ( Learners  choose  specific  material guided by a teacher, Directed play  ( Teachers instruction  to accomplish by singing, dramatisation creative games.

I Thouroughly  enjoyed learning how play can  impact music in the classroom. Learning  about play and games genres ,clapping  with  body   action  games ,clapping  and singing games, stone passing game, dancing play and music drama play.  Teaching  songs of other  languages  improves learners  confident and be able to experience the different songs in depth.( meaning of a song )

 That is all for now,

Thank  you,,laugh

Hi everyone,

Hope everything is fine as  we are approaching the end of the semester.

I am so excited that I  finally  had time to   express my  understanding  to the remaining  units that  I did not attend on time due  to other responsibilities  but  I am stiving  to do my best even though  it seems to be hard sometimes  I believe I will  finally  get there.

Listening to  and responding to  music.

I have learned that music is  important in teaching and learning in foundation phase. Learners learn best through music ,this reminds me back when I was  a kid that  we were good in imitating  our peers ,parents, teachers and  musicials  and also competing on each others   and playing singing games.. This helped me to be confident and building self esteem  even though I was a little bit shy that time . Music  activities  support nom-musical learning  and holistic development. of other subjects.

Inclusivity  and diversity in music classroom

It is of importance to include all learning styles  are catered .It  start by  learners touching instruments, feeling vibrations, smelling the wood.  type of songs that are chosen must be must be diverse and including  cultures and religions.  The teacher must include learners  playing  songs  in order to build self esteem and confidence.

Teaching them about different  instruments  which are used for  a certain  music ,will open learners eyes  in order to be able to differenciate  type of music.   As a teacher  I can easly nuture  learners music  abilities  again   by focusing on  stages of development. e.g Imitation, exploration, improvision  and composition.

Thank you ,that is all for now. yes

Hello everyone,

What did  I learn from unit about Holistic Development of Foundation Phase  Learners.

Teaching through music is quite  important to learning and  helps learners to develop in various ways .

  1. Physical development  - When learners play music they  improve physically,  gross motor skills and hand coordinations. Through dancing they develop balance ,coordination  and  gross motor skills.
  2.  Cognitive  development - Learners improve vocabulary when singing in various languages  and Phonics. Promotes higher  order thinking  skills ,logical  and abstract thinking. Subjects can also  be intergrated  through music.
  3. .Social development  -Group music activities provide opportunities  to engage  in social interaction. The learn to about taking  turns  and this also builds    confidence  self esteem.
  4.  Personal development -  Learners gain   confidence and self esteem .They participate  with other peers. Creation of playing instruments . Taking part  in singing and dancing , improves   movements and body patterns.
  5.  Emotional development -  They learn to identify various emotions. They become sensitive to other emotions and they also develop empathy emotional intellegence.  Able  Identify moods in  a song  and give time to a song to express feelings.

LEARNING THEORIES. .

1. Erikson"s stages of Pshychological development. - Teachers are there to support learners ,to promote self confidence and self esteem.  When learners do not experience encouragement and praise they might develop self doubt and low self esteem.
