THE END IS HERE!!

We have come to the end of our blogging journey guys , although we still have one last stretch to this year, I know we can make the best of it.

I have learned a lot and I hope you fell the same, I know that there are still many adventures ahead of us in which we can incorporate music into our own daily lives and our students and children if any of you have perhaps.

OUR FUTURE ENDEAVOURS

We have to understand that we will be dealing with Foundation phase learners in our futures, and we have to do our best to understand that they will be very playful learners and we need to incorporate ways and means to help them understand and develop through music.

I have learned that we should understand our music elements, engage with our students, and allow as much fun as possible in our classrooms. I have learned that music does not only stop at an instrument, but it can also be all around you, your desk, your body, you pencil, your juice bottle and many more. You do not have to have a rich environment for children to learn through music. I have learned many new names in these study units such as Zoltan Kodaly, Reggio Emilia, Dalcroze, Erikson, Piget, Vygotsky and many more. Music allows development in a physical, cognitive, social, personal and emotional manner. I t has allowed me to understand the diversity between children and the need to explore more activities for different children as well as consider children’s religions when choosing a specific music lesson. I can go on about music the whole day, so let me end our year off by saying: Each and every one of us can make a success of everything we do, when we try.

The integration of arts into learning has taught me a lot on becoming a great future teacher as well as how to incorporate fun activities into my lesson. Integrating arts into my lessons would be a great way for children to express themselves, become more confident, while engaging with other students, teachers, parents and the extended community. Arts integration in the classroom allows active learning while incorporating other subjects into the lesson.

Arts in the foundation phase can allow children knowledge of how different cultures work, they can have a broader understanding on how life outside works, the different society’s we live in, while enhancing many skills a child could need in their future endeavours.

Integration of arts can be used through making music by using your body (Body percussion). Body percussion can be used to make your own beat, which can incorporate Life skills into a lesson. Life skills could be a child recognising a certain body part: clapping their hands, stomping their feet, touching their knees and so forth. Mathematics could also be integrated while using arts: clap your hands 5 times to the beat, stomp your feet twice and snap your fingers 4 times could allow children mathematical skills whiles integrating arts.

We can have multiple discussions regarding music and arts integration as it is so much fun!!!!

Study Unit 5

Hi guys we are almost at the end of the road… it was truly a very difficult year, but the studies must move forward.

Planning a lesson plan is very much hard work and it has many aspects that you need to follow for it to be a success. But just think about it, when you do a lesson plan that if fun for the students and yourself, it would make things much easier. Incorporating arts and music into your lesson plan is always a great idea, until you run out of ideas of course . But I doubt that will happen as this subject has taught me many ways to incorporate music into any subjects that deems fit. Like every lesson plan there should be an introduction, a presentation phase, conclusion, and assessment phase. When doing a lesson plan that incorporates music you still have to make sure that your learners engage during the lesson and always check for understanding when doing so. Just imagine playing a song for the class and just doing nothing, sitting there letting them listen to a song, ask them do they understand the song? That is clearly poor planning. But having a lesson where children are having fun, engaging with each other and the teacher, building new skills, encouraging creativity, and promoting holistic development would be fun for you as a teacher and fun for them. This study unit has all the planning elements you need when planning a music lesson, so come on guys lets go out and be the best educators we can be.

Playing is always fun for children, whether it be role play, traditional play, open play or original play. Children learn a lot through play and attach a great deal of value to games and play. Play can be a way of communication and social development at the same time.

It is important for children to have fun while learning, as mentioned above children can benefit a lot from incorporating play into their daily lives and learning environment, as it allows learners to develop their cognitive abilities. As per the article, play in the holistic development in the foundation phase can allow academic achievement and success. Keeping on mind that young children still need to develop many skills when growing up, they can develop their problem-solving skills, thinking skills, imagination, creativity and leadership skills.

Activities vary such as free play, guided play, direct play, active play which involves movement, social play, playing with objects, practice play, where you can allow children to come to school with different careers and talk about the career they choose. Symbolic play, games that have rules, there are many ways of learning activities for children to learn from without them even realising they are learning and playing at the same time. It is very interesting to see the different types of ways play can be introduced into your everyday learning and teaching abilities. You need to be open minded when doing an activity regarding play with children, but at the same time you need to understand the lesson outcome of the play.

Good evening my blogger family

I hope that you are pushing hard through this extremely tough week. I know I am trying at the edge. This study unit and subject in general has had me thinking many different ways as to how music can be incorporated in different subjects and not only as a fun time activity. We as educators should not only be looking at music as an element of sound or noise or just a popular song to sing. We should use music as a teaching tool to make a lesson fun as well as allowing children to engage their senses when listening to music. As a educator we should let children explore through music whereas they can experience different cultures, values and allow them to be comfortable and move outside of their comfort zones.

When dealing with foundation phase learners we should always understand equality, inclusion, appreciation, and acceptance. We need to understand that we are working with a group of different diversities and mannerisms. We should understand what the students are comfortable with as well as hoe to accommodate their needs and interests. There are different elements when music is involved, such as duration, pitch, intensity, quality, texture, melody and many more. This allows education in some fields of different subjects such as mathematics and language.

Mathematics can relate to music by means of note values (as an example) in order for you to understand note values you need to be able to count. One needs to understand the basics of maths to be able to count. Language can also be incorporated into music. When a teacher teach a class a specific song, you as a student needs to learn the words, rhythm and sounds of the song. At first a learner would have to remember and learn the words, so they start to familiarise themselves with the words to the song, and before you know it, they start to identify these sounds and words in other daily work.

I really find it interesting the manner in which music could be incorporated into an everyday lesson. Music does not only allow integration with one subject but it allows you to integrate it in many ways and subjects possible. Music allows children to have fun as well as learn new behaviours and interact with each other. Music allows advantages in mathematics which is a great thing for future learning opportunities.

Hi everyone my name is Chandrea Schoeman, I am a second year student and boy has it been tough, especially when you are a single and working parent. I have read through some blogs and I must say we all are in some way connected to each other and all go through hard times at one point or the other. All I would like to say is that God would not give you an obstacle if he was not going to put you through it.

My understanding of Vygotsky's theory is mostly based on socio-cultural factors. Your surroundings to develop a child's cognitive abilities. The environment you grow up in as well as your family, friends, culture and community are all factors to be believed important for cognitive growth.

Erikson- psychosocial development stage shows me the importance of children's social interaction in the foundation phase. During this stage children want to feel safe, valued, supported and cared for. In doing so they are at a stage where they love attention and to be able to feel proud and confident. Allow good feedback.

Piaget - Cognitive development stage allows growth through experiencing the world and gaining knowledge through prior skills. We should not forget that children think and see the world differently compared to adults. There are also different stages as to how children grow, think and behave.

Vygotsky- As mentioned above is about your socio- cultural factors.

We should understand that children grow up differently. We all do not have the same social up brining or the same resources at home. I should be sensitive to each child's up brining and try to understand each child, using the theories given to me.

Growth comes in many different forms or aspects, it serves as a fun factor for children to learn and not only sit in a class and listen to a teacher in front of the chalk board. Music can increase children's sense of tonality as well as the ability to more accurately match pitch and increased motor co-ordination.

Through music children can learn physical development ,cognitive, social and so forth. I could bring a sound box to class with different types of music and allow children to have fun by dancing
