Final blog post
What a year it has been! I can’t believe we are finally here at the end wow wow wow! This past week too has been a bit hectic but I understand that it is because we are at the finishing line of this year.
This semester has been interesting especially this module LSKM 221. I was a bit sceptical about this arts and music integration in the lessons for Foundation Phase learners but I’ve made a 360 turn on this idea and I’m 100% for it. This module has taught me that arts and music integration in lessons in foundation phase can be very supportive towards the learners learning in many way like constructing and enhancing the learners’ better understanding of themselves and the world around them.
It requires that the teacher to have an in-depth knowledge of how to integrate it into lessons so as to offer the lessons that will be relevant to their age group, understandable and conducive to them. As a future teacher I’ve discovered that foundation phase learners learn best through play. They better by singing and dancing and even acting up some lessons. They learn better when they are actively engaged in the lesson. By taking part by means of performing and singing make lessons interesting for them and they engage more and thus their cognitive skills develops, their problem solving skills are enhanced. what was more interesting for me is that virtual lessons with music and arts is very interesting and they learn faster, they get to engage with fellow learners thus developing working together, being empathetic towards others and respect each other.
I enjoyed this module very much irrespective of my scepticism at the beginning of the semester. I intend to incorporate music and arts in my lessons when I become a teacher.
So long guys until next time
Hi everyone!
To tell the truth I almost forgot about the blog post because of all the work from other modules. The lady who asked about the posts on the group thank you for reminding me. This weeks has been a bit hectic. Particularly with all the peer marking of other modules.
Study unit 5
This unit is challenging and interesting and it has given me an idea of how to incorporate music and arts into the class lessons. I saw how important the planning and infusing with music and arts is done and how important that is.
1. What could the possible reason be that assessment is neglected in the performing arts and music in the foundation phase?
I believe there could be a variety of reasons like:-
• Foundation phase day is too small and teachers can’t fit everything in that little time.
• Some schools don’t have enough resources to play and learn music and arts.
• Some teachers take performing arts for granted and they concentrate in teaching math and or languages.
2. Please explain how you would advocate for and heighten the awareness about the importance of assessment when speaking with the HOD about the concerns in this regard?
• As much as all subjects are assessed I believe that performing arts and music should be assessed too so as to help the teachers to see the progress of the learners. Some teachers take performing arts and music for granted maybe because it doesn’t have to be assessed. If this can change they will take it serious and things will improve.
I never thought performing arts and music are important but since learning this module my perception has really changed. I’m going to put more effort and make sure that music and arts are a part of my lessons when I become a teacher.
Until next time
BYE!!!!!!
Study unit 4
This week for me is better than all the weeks since the start of this semester. Yes the work is hectic but I’m starting to cope a little better.
Arts integration is not a waste of time in the Foundation Phase education. It helps learners in many ways to grasp content they didn’t understand before.
• Arts in the form of music, dancing, drama and more arts activities boosts the learners self-confidence and their self-esteem.
• It boosts their social skills, helps them with the sense of solving conflicts, to be empathetic towards others and to work well in groups.
• Arts integration keeps them engaged in learning, it gives the lesson a boost not to be boring for them.
The aspect of study unit 4 that I found interesting is the fact that when young people are involved with the arts, something changes in their lives, I’ve seen it its true. For instance when they were in a foul mood and they are asked to draw how they are feeling right now, when they are done with their drawing you find that that mood is gone and the learner is a back to their normal self.
What I found challenging is the part of development through teaching in music, from music, with music, on music, about music and through music. I don’t understand this part and I want to read more on it this weekend.
Good bye and have a lovely weekend everybody
Till next time!!!
Ciao!
Hey everybody!
Wow wow wow! This week is really showing me flames. It’s so hectic. Task after task, am I going to be able to finish them all? I’m wondering. My eyes are not helping, they are aching like no body's business. I can’t work on the laptop for long.
Study unit 2 is interesting. I’ve always known music and loved it but never thought it has so many elements.
In cooperating contemporary music in the lessons can be highly productive and will make the lesson enjoyable thus enhancing the learner’s interest in the lesson and keeping them engaged. Contemporary commercial music is the music most learners hear every day even at home on the television or on the radio, they can sing and learn anywhere.
The content of study unit two is inclusive it’s not limited to a certain age group. All learners can learn from this content.
The content on this unit was well drawn up and I do not have any suggestion. It’s well explained and understandable. I really enjoyed this unit a lot.
Let’s meet again soon!!
Bye for now!!!
