What a ride it has been and coming to an end of a year…
LSKM has been a valuable module for me throughout the semester. It has opened my eyes and highlighted the importance of always remembering how beneficial music is in education. I will never forget that. Individual reflections gave me time to reflect and verbalize what my thoughts are and what I have learnt in the specific study unit. I was good to just take a breath and look back at the study unit, it has benefitted me in many ways. Every unit in this module was meaningful as I learnt something significant in every unit. But what stood out was lesson planning with music integration. The lesson plans challenged me a bit, but I got the hang of it and understand it now more than ever. All information was valuable, I would not say that any information was not. I am looking forward to using the information in my class.
Till next time....
I learnt a lot of new skills to equip me to plan a good music incorporated lesson. The lesson plan as whole also makes a lot more sense to me now and I understand each section of the lesson plan better. Music is neglected in schools because not everybody realizes or knows the importance of music in children's lives ,there is not enough time in the term to include extra things. Some schools only follow the plan that the government gives them and some doesn’t t have the resources . My perception of arts and music in education has changed throughout this module. I would try to encourage schools to research the importance of music incorporation and then they will realize that schools need to make due of incorporating music into the curriculum.
It has been clear that arts integration is definitely not a waste of time and greatly benefits learners. Music helps learners to form natural connections with math, science, reading, writing and arts. When arts integration takes place, it helps to enhance teamwork, communication skills, self-esteem, language skills and problem solving skills. Integration of arts also showed the importance of embracing diversity, and that each child should explore and discover their own unique talents. Music brings children together on a full different level and helps learners develop holistically.
I really enjoyed this one the most. I especially enjoyed the song on You tube and will definitely play the game with my class in the future. Learning that play has 7 elements is something I did not know and found very interesting. I also just got reminded that music plays a huge role in children's lives. I would play songs that all learners would understand. Or at least play one song in each language that certain children don't feel left out. I would not force children to dance in front of other if they don't feel comfortable doing so/play music that they are comfortable dancing to.
What I learnt in study unit 2 is that music plays a big and important role in children's lives and cultures. learning about different cultures and their music they listen to is interesting , I actually enjoy some of them as well. I also found it interesting that you can start moving to a beat and not even notice it, music is powerful! By incorporating new contemporary music into the classroom children will feel more comfortable and will enjoy the lesson more, it will be 'cool' to them and something different
Starting off the LSKM module for 2021 , I realised how relay important music is in school.
Not a day goes by that there isn't music or a music activity going on in class . My learners will ask me out of their own if they could listen to so music if the mood is right and they are quite and it makes them more calm in class and helps them focus on their work. The discipline in my class hasn't been a problem since.
I would choose music education, many studies has proved that the importance of music in education is important . I have seen it first hand and will encourage every teacher to incorporate music into their lessons and classrooms. Through exploring music, students find natural connections to math, science, reading, writing and art. Although children learn in different ways, music allows them to express themselves in a unique way that motivates their learning and boosts self-confidence.
Hii..
My name is Nerine Marsi , I live in a small farm town in Limpopo and am loving it! I am currently a teacher at a private school and really have a passion for children and teaching. I aspire to be a better teacher every day and love being a hands-on during teaching with the little ones . Music is in fact a very important part of learning, and helps a lot with their developing and growth the children really enjoy having music activities in class and school.
I am looking forward to enjoying this module this semester. My expectations are to learn more about music and the importance it has to education.
