My reflection

Ive learnt alot in this module since we've started the semester , I didn't know music has such influence in children's lives and I didnt also know it had principles and theories . Unit 1 I have learnt that there are Eriksons stages of psychosocial development , that children in foundation phase fall under the fourth stage being industry vs inferiority .This stage means that children need to be praised for doing good things or rewarded so that they can feel proud and confident . This means that teachers have to do that more often in class to increase the level of success in the classroom . I've also learnt about Piaget cognitive development theory that says children build new knowledge  based on their existing knowledge  and their experience . We must also know children think differently from adults. Foundation phase learners fall under pre-operational and concrete operational stages . On Vygotsky's zone of proximal we learn that there are certain things that children can do on their own and there are things they cannot do on their own , they need assistance on them , guidance or collaboration learning . Unit 2 I've learnt alot about the music elements .I didnt know there are elements in music and that was one of the challenging part of music for me . It took alot of time for me to finally understand them and know how to differentiate them . I know that music elements are there to create music when we combine them . Tone is a certain element that gives music its characteristic sound meaning that a unique sound . Elements  include pitch , intensity , quality and duration. Unit 3 We learnt about play . I've learnt that there are two different types of play which includes play that is not instructed which means that learners choose their own game,  their own instruction and the songs they use , then theres a game that has a set of instruction , a specific song while the teacher is there observing. I've also learnt that the games could include circle games , singing games, dancing games and rhythm games . These games help learners alot besides having fun and enjoying . It helps them with working together , creativity , discipline , transformation and therapeutic effects . They also enhance their vocabulary and their skills . Unit 4 Art integration plays a huge role in a classroom and teachers must start taking it very serious . Art integration simply means teaching that makes learners demonstrate understanding in an art form , they become creative in a way that makes them connect an art form and a subject . For example maths and music , you can teach maths using music so that learners grab that knowledge faster and in an enjoyable way , saying multiples of 2 using a song "Tadpole in the water " . Music can also help learners in class to end a lesson and switch to the other nene . To also start writing independently, we use soft music for that .

Possible reasons that could be that assessment is neglected in Perfoming arts or music

Art is the most neglected  subject in schools , they think it is waste of time because every learner know the things that are included in art , being music , painting , drawing , dancing . Not knowing that there are many things included in the teaching of art being the principles   .terms and ways to collaborate with other learners  . It does not include theory only , it also teach learners to work in groups,  get to know other learners better and be free around them meaning it boasts their self esteem and confidence  . Some of the learners enjoy art which also lead to them making one of it for example music their hobbies or make money with that skill as they grow up . In schools they see that as being playful , wasting time and it's more than that . They help with listening skills , math skills , making the brain work harder , relieving stress , creativity and it also help special needs children

Art can be taken seriously by -:

Making sure learners get to do any of the types of art atleast once every week, both theory and practical , it helps learners alot .

They should also folw the Curriculum of art instead of giving learners free marks

Make lesson plan just like they do for other subjects

The same energy they use in maths and languages they should use it in Art .

Su4 Arts integration

Arts integration in foundation phase means that children get to understand through art form  , which allows them to be more creative and get to think out of the box .  This Art integration helps learners in many ways which include revealing their potential because they'll be given a chance to explore in art which can include painting,  drawing  , dancing and drama . It also builds their cooperation skills and confidence as they get.used to working with other kids without fights and quarrels .

I've learnt that you can combine art with other subjects for example music and maths , that's something I've found interesting and It is new knowledge to me . That is an interesting thing because learners get to learn two things at once without even noticing it , when you read about it , it seems hard and complicating for kids only.to find out it is one of the interesting parts in art . I've also learnt and enjoyed knowing that  art makes learning easy  because they  can relate the new knowledge with the things that happen in real life . It's also  an interesting way for learners as they get excited to dance or sing which makes the classroom fun and enjoyable. These are.the things that made me interested in the integration of art .

I've understood everything and didnt find anything challenging besides the part that initiates that activities are linked to other subjects as well as CAPS is written in a way that subjects link.to one another
