Greetings ☺️
My name is Sibanye Mbuthuma I am from Richard's Bay KZN. I am a house wife with two kids, so basically my job is to take care of all the household chores and take care of my two kids. I am a second year BEd foundation phase student at the North West University. I want to become a foundation phase teacher because I believe that I can learn a lot about the child's development skills at the school environment, and I am very much passionate in teaching and helping out, so I believe helping the young ones at the early stage will encourage me to do even more in the outside environment. I really enjoyed studying LSKA module last year, so even this year I am glad and excited that I am getting more of it, because I really enjoy doing practical work.
PART 1
It has really been a hectic and busy week for me, since I have to juggle between my family, taking care of the household chores, taking care of the kids, my school work, and of course the othe modules which comes with its workload, so it's really busy and very difficult but I believe that I will definitely pull through.
PART 2
I have learnt that children get to learn good behavioral and listening skills. Children also get to develop a good focus on musical aspects. I also learned that music also promotes physical development. Children become exposed to dance routines.
PART 3
This study unit will teach me to become a very flexible teacher to my learners, because I will be able to teach students any subjects using the form of music.
INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION
I am not much of a music fan or person, I have never taken music seriously in my life because I don't have much knowledge about it and the main reason is that I don't know how to sing or make music, but I do listen and enjoy some music. But now I think my mindset about music is changing since I'm learning about how music can develop and build an individual.
If I had to choose between physical and music education I would definitely choose physical education, because i find it easy to do the physical part such as dancing and exercising, and more so because I enjoy doing physical work like exercising so I think I can be a good teacher on physical education, we can always incorporate music on our physical routine.
Answering questions on study unit 1
1. My understanding to Vygotsky is that Vygotsky believes that adults are the ones tha can teach children certain things about life, so thats why he says that the community has influence in the child's development.
Eriksons theory of psychosocial development is more about communicating so it is important to build relationships, so that children can learn through interacting
Piagets cognitive theory says that children come to school with prior knowledge, because children learn from things happening around them, so when they go to school and come across something they have already seen or heard about it at their homes.Children also learn from their parents elder siblings, television.
Vygotskys theory says that a teacher should make sure that the learners understands the work that they are being taught, and let the children to reflect on the work they have been doing before introducing new work to them.
3. I have have gained alot of knowledge in this study unit, that as a teacher it's not always about what you know and teacher, but also about what others know, like knowing that children have prior knowledge from home and learning from their surroundings this has opened my mind that as a teacher we should give the children a platform to talk about what they knowbecause this will help them to have confidence in themselves and will be eager to learn more, and this will help them brighten their future because they will always want to learn more in their future lives.
4. Having basic knowledge about music is very important because this will lead you to the right direction, at least you will understand where to start unlike not knowing anything at all. Having basic knowledge will also help you to improve where you you lack.
5. Social development is one of the most important developments, because relationships are important in life so having social relationships, so if children dance and make music together in groups will help them form a bond and a healthy relationship with one another
Cognitive development: As a teacher I interact with the children and let them teach me their dance routines this helps in building confidence in children.
Physical development : this development is one of the best developments for children because you get to see what the children are capable of doing with their bodies, and what they can learn and how their bodies move to the sound of the music and the different kinds of dance routines.
6. My question to my inner self is are these theories taught correctly all the time to the young ones, in all the schools whether the school is well resourced or under resourced and whether the outcomes of the teachings are good or just fine. Are teachers from under resourced schools able to do the work expected of them whether the material is there or not.
