Art Intergration

Study unit 4

Hey guys I am back once again, these past few days have been very stressful having to juggle work, family, and school. It an overwhelming situation.

As I was reading and going through study unit 4 the art and Intergration, I firmly believe that the art Intergration in the foundation phase is a very important component, because I believe that it helps the learners to understand the work better and they will have their wild imaginations about that specific subject or lesson at hand. The art Intergration helps to develop the children's imagination, it also helps children to know that in art you can also express your feelings without any words but through art.

Reading about art Intergration was very interesting because I got to learn about things I didn't know and that helped me to understand it better, and I will be able to use it in future when I become a qualified teacher.

What I can say is that the activities that come with arts Intergration is not an easy task to compile, you really have to put in alot of work and know what you really doing, and do alot of research about it so that the activity will be a success.

Until next time Bye

Study unit 3: Musical play

18 Sep 2021, 15:16 Publicly Viewable

I'm back once again, it has been a very stressful and hectic week with the workload that had to be done in a short space of time.

Individual reflection

What possibly made some learners uncomfortable during these activities?

*Some students are not familiar with the song, the language and how to pronounce the words, so this as a result is making the children to feel uncomfortable. Some children don't feel comfortable to dance in front of the others because they are shy, and not knowing the language is making them feel uncomfortable and out of place and they are scared that the other learners will laugh at them.

Why were some learners uncomfortable?

They were uncomfortable because of the language barrier, religious beliefs and cultural backgrounds. When it comes to beliefs, in some religions girls can not dance in front of the boys or dance with the boys, so that is what makes some learners uncomfortable.

Can you think of ways to address these issues in future? What will you change?

*Firstly I would have to ask my learners about their beliefs and this would help me to understand each learners background and ask them who are not comfortable to perform in front of others.

*When it comes to the song, I will use different languages to explain the song to the learners so that no learner will feel left out and out of place. And I would also ask the learners to work together so that they will feel comfortable to perform together.

How can we accommodate diverse learner profiles in our classrooms? What must we baware of?

As foundation phase teachers we must always tread carefully when it comes to the learners cultural and religious beliefs because this is a very sensitive aspect to the families, they want to be respected all the time. So as teachers we must find ways to accommodate these aspects and make the learners feel comfortable to express their performance in their own language. We can teach each other the different kinds of cultures in class and take turns to perform in those cultures, by doing this all the learners will be comfortable in the classroom.

The End.

Thank you my fellow teachers, until next time bye

How do music concepts and related experiences relate to life skills, Mathematics and language

Study unit 2:

Music is a very powerful tool, because even for those who disable can make music without any hassle, music doesn't need you to have everything to compose. When it comes to learners, they find some words to difficult for them to pronounce and to learn, so by doing music they can easily understand what is being said.

Mathamathics is rather a difficult subject for many children, so incorporating music to the subject can make things a bit easy for them, using music as tool to master the subject can be a very nice way, because learners would remember a certain song or lyric and know what is needed and what is expected of them.

The movement in music is another way to pass on a massage to those who have disabilities, so when doing music and dance they would easily understand what is the song is about and what it means.

About myself and reflecting on study unit 1

Greetings ☺️

My name is Sibanye Mbuthuma I am from Richard's Bay KZN. I am a house wife with two kids, so basically my job is to take care of all the household chores and take care of my two kids. I am a second year BEd foundation phase student at the North West University. I want to become a foundation phase teacher because I believe that I can learn a lot about the child's development skills at the school environment, and I am very much passionate in teaching and helping out, so I believe helping the young ones at the early stage will encourage me to do even more in the outside environment. I really enjoyed studying LSKA module last year, so even this year I am glad and excited that I am getting more of it, because I really enjoy doing practical work.

PART 1

It has really been a hectic and busy week for me, since I have to juggle between my family, taking care of the household chores, taking care of the kids, my school work, and of course the othe modules which comes with its workload, so it's really busy and very difficult but I believe that I will definitely pull through.

PART 2

I have learnt that children get to learn good behavioral and listening skills. Children also get to develop a good focus on musical aspects. I also learned that music also promotes physical development. Children become exposed to dance routines.

PART 3

This study unit will teach me to become a very flexible teacher to my learners, because I will be able to teach students any subjects using the form of music.

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION

I am not much of a music fan or person, I have never taken music seriously in my life because I don't have much knowledge about it and the main reason is that I don't know how to sing or make music, but I do listen and enjoy some music. But now I think my mindset about music is changing since I'm learning about how music can develop and build an individual.

If I had to choose between physical and music education I would definitely choose physical education, because i find it easy to do the physical part such as dancing and exercising, and more so because I enjoy doing physical work like exercising so I think I can be a good teacher on physical education, we can always incorporate music on our physical routine.

Answering questions on study unit 1

1. My understanding to Vygotsky is that Vygotsky believes that adults are the ones tha can teach children certain things about life, so thats why he says that the community has influence in the child's development.

Eriksons theory of psychosocial development is more about communicating so it is important to build relationships, so that children can learn through interacting

Piagets cognitive theory says that children come to school with prior knowledge, because children learn from things happening around them, so when they go to school and come across something they have already seen or heard about it at their homes.Children also learn from their parents elder siblings, television.

Vygotskys theory says that a  teacher should make sure that the learners understands the work that they are being taught, and let the children to reflect on the work they have been doing before introducing new work to them.

3. I have have gained alot of knowledge in this study unit, that as a teacher it's not always about what you know and teacher, but also about what others know, like knowing that children have prior knowledge from home and learning from their surroundings this has opened my mind that as a teacher we should give the children a platform to talk about what they knowbecause this will help them to have confidence in themselves and will be eager to learn more, and this will help them brighten their future because they will always want to learn more in their future lives.

4. Having basic knowledge about music is very important because this will lead you to the right direction, at least you will understand where to start unlike not knowing anything at all. Having basic knowledge will also help you to improve where you you lack.

5. Social development is one of the most important developments, because relationships are important in life so having social relationships, so if children dance and make music together in groups will help them form a bond and a healthy relationship with one another

Cognitive development: As a teacher I interact with the children and let them teach me their dance routines this helps in building confidence in children.

Physical development : this development is one of the best developments for children because you get to see what the children are capable of doing with their bodies, and what they can learn and how their bodies move to the sound of the music and the different kinds of dance routines.

6. My question to my inner self is are these theories taught correctly all the time to the young ones, in all the schools whether the school is well resourced or under resourced and whether the outcomes of the teachings are good or just fine. Are teachers from under resourced schools able to do the work expected of them whether the material is there or not.
