I did it!!!!
And so the semester is coming to an end... what a hectic time it has been!
What did you learn from the individual reflections?
Definitely to force myself to put in words what I thought / learnt from the study unit.
What did you find challenging?
I am not a good writer and this blogging THING was out of my comfort zone.
Did you find the individual reflections meaningful? Please motivate your answer.
No, it was really difficult. I would've done a thousand assignments as to do blogs about reflections (what I've learnt). As for a distance Student, there's no time to blog.
What would you change if you had the opportunity in future?
I think to have a different way of reflections, rather then blogging, maybe an assignment about our experiences in the module.
What did you find interesting and meaningful?
For sure Study Unit 4 & 5.
What challenged you, and what do you still struggle to understand?
Assignment 2-4 and the Blogs. I still struggle with the CAPS and planning a lesson.
What didn't you find valuable for your future teaching practice?
Oh, EVERYTHING was valuable! This module has really shaken me up.
This was very insightful, although I found it a bit difficult. This module totally surprised me. I struggled with Art Integration and Lesson planning, but learnt that I need to focus on CAPS and the outcomes with objectives. At the drop of a hat, I would make use of Music one day in my classroom.
What could the possible reasons be that assessments is neglected in Performing Arts and Music in the Foundation Phase?
I would tell my HOD what we're missing, and try to incorporate it into our daily planning. In regards to the older generation teachers, we as the new generation will help them to show how technology can assist with Music / learning.
This Unit totally amused me with the Arts Integration knowledge. Every future Educator can use this as a guiding tool. Making use of creativity, a way in which learners can bespeak their understanding of the work. The fact that it promotes pragmatic learning and the in-depth understanding of new knowledge / concepts, will be very beneficial for the learners. LSKM 221 definitely taught me something about music. Yes, I'm grasping at straws, totally at Wits End, but Music really helps children with learning new concepts in a way that they love. Who new that Arts Integration could help learners understand their work better.
I think PLAY in the Foundation Phase are very crucial. We tend to forget that the learners are still minors and that they love / enjoy to PLAY, as to sit in a class with an open textbook in front of them. It definitely boosts their confidence, motivating them into participating in activities and mingle with friends. This Unit taught me that Play involves a state of mind / disposition, contains elements of surprise / challenge, it's voluntary and unifying, forming part of the socializing process etc. Incorporating the use of games and dancing /singing in the theme of the day, will definitely make learning more interesting.
Hi guys
Hope everyone had a wonderful day.
Wow, I don't know about you guys, but it has been CRAZY.
Remember to KEEP GOING!
We're almost there!
I think this module has taught me that there is more to Music
We start the day with Bible verses in the form of musical songs and do they love it!
My teacher and I incorporate music into our planning for the day. The English First Additional vowels, sounds etc. are taught via music. We usually download from YouTube and add it into the PowerPoint presentation especially for the intervention kids.
I don't know about you guys, but I've been battling with TIME MANAGEMENT lately!
With a full time job and studies, it's very arduous!
1. The learner-centered teaching way emphasizes the zone of proximal development. Whereby learners are more interactive during activities and discussions and take own responsibilities to learn new skills or knowledge.
2. According to Erikson's stages of Psychosocial development, I would make the point of convergence social interaction and my relationships with my students. Taking Piaget's cognitive development theory into consideration, I will allow them to act and think according to their cognitive development (prior knowledge). I will focus more on concrete objects and images to show them the world around them. In my opinion, a child's socio-cultural and social environment has an impact / determine their learning needs and educational stage.
3. Physical development, cognitive development, social development, personal development, emotional development.
4. I found this Study Unit very insightful / intuitive. When having this basic knowledge, definitely having a fun way to teach children new knowledge. (Creating a more creative learning environment for children)
5. Activities such as dancing, clapping hands, clapping hands, stomping feet on the ground and playing instruments.
Hi guys!
As you can see I am not the blogging type of girl, but I'm always game for anything new challenging me outside of my comfort zone.
My name is Darell Scholtz, 27 years of age, and live in a small town called Upington. We live on a plot outside Upington, with 2 dogs and my parents. I found this module very interesting, and just the fact that I love music / singing. Currently employed at a school called Fanie Malan, and love working with children!
Best of luck with the semester everyone!
