Ethnicity has lived for years and years, it's a term that is not largely understood. Ethnicity refers to the social and cultural characteristics shared by a group of people. Ndaa, I was born and raised by a Venda family, both my parents being Venda. My culture beliefs which are not complex make me proud myself as a Venda boy. We believe in morals hence I saw it fit to start this text with how i would greet anyone be it young or adult. Respect and morals are something taught at a young age and is engraved in our roots and upbringing. How has this help shape our world? A world without respect is a useless and unruly world, these teachings help us approach anyone in an understanding manner, this helps us build fruitful relationships with each other. This is something that we strongly believe in my ethnic group, it has lived before my forefathers, and it's still present today. As a man, whenever you greet you say Ndaa and as a female you say Aa as a sign of respect. One would think this creates stigma and stereotyping to people who either identify as male while female or vice versa or non-binary people but no it does not. You greet in which every way you feel comfortable as long as we respect each other.
As Christians as we are, we are also religious and acknowledge the people who lived before us thus being the ancestors. All though most families are diverging away from this, it has also lived before our forefathers, and it has help shape my view of the world. It has taught me that knowing my roots and acknowledging those who lived before me is important so that I don't get lost in my own identity. It can be argued but I strongly believe in what I was taught. This has helped us not shy away from our culture and converge into the western manners of doing things, instead these teachings and beliefs have help us stay on track with where we come from. Different ethnic groups have different beliefs, so understanding that what is normal to you is not normal to others is important, do not force what you believe is right unto others.
