The development of endogenous views of an Afrikaner family.

I grew up in an ethnically Afrikaner family. The Afrikaner, defined by Germanic descent was shaped by various ethnicities comprising of mainly Dutch, German, Swedish and French ancestry are an ethnic group that in my opinion have an endogenous inclination towards various forms of Nationalism, harshness, pride and stoicism.

These factors I believe were brought on by the various harsh events that shaped Afrikaner history such as the Boer wars and the subsequent first ever use of concentration camps on the Boer women and children resulting in the deaths of an estimated 27 000, the various Zulu wars with the Voortrekkers  and the famous battles that defined these wars such as the battle of Bloodriver, the massacres of Bloukrans, Moordspruit and Weenen. Then furthermore the Bush and Border wars combatting communists in the latter half of the 20th century.

These events I believe have left an imprint or scarring on the collective consciousness of the descendants of the Voortrekkers and Boere, helping shape the modern Afrikaner identity and ethnicity. These events have helped the Afrikaners adapt and shape a personality that would allow them to thrive in an early hostile environment.

These views can still be seen in almost every Afrikaner present, myself included. A distasteful view of communist and liberal views, a strong sense of devotion to religion, and a strongly authoritarian family unit headed by a male.
