My culture teachings/ beliefs

As a Zulu person, my culture has made me who I am with it unique teachings. The two teachings or beliefs that are intrinsic to my culture and have significantly shaped my worldview. Firstly is Ubuntu, which translate to "I am because we are". This concept emphasis the interconnectedness of humanity and the importance of community. For us Zulu people, Ubuntu informs our relationships, behavior and sense of identity. It encourages compassion, empathy and cooperation between people, building a strong sense of unity and belonging within the community. Through Ubuntu, we prioritize collective well-being over individuals success.

Ancestral worship is another fundamental aspect of Zulu spirituality and cultural practice. We maintain a deep reverence for our ancestors, viewing them as our guardians and mediators between us living and the divine realm. We believe that ancestors guide and protect our descendants, offering wisdom, blessings and spiritual guidance. We also give ancestors a place to live in the hut and we call it 'emsamo'. This place is considered a sacred place, only males are allowed to go to this place and communicate with the ancestors. Females only go to the place when there is a ritual performed.

Together these endogenous teachings provide insights into the rich tapestry of my culture and its enduring legacy in the modern world.
