Reflective Piece

20 May 2024, 22:25 Publicly Viewable

Being a first year student in a different province far away from home, had to adjust quickly so I can keep moving. Getting to learn a new tongue and had to communicate with other people with my bad English.

My first day I was so lost and I had to ask strangers for directions to my first class but still I get lost, I finally found the building and when I entered the lecture was already wrapping up the lesson and that is how I lost my first  experience being in the lecture room and listening to the lecture educating me. I felt so embarrassed, the way students were looking at me you would swear that I  deeply wanted to disappear from that moment already.

Without hesitation I went back to my room and just reflected on how embarrassing my first day at campus, playing thoughts on my mind that I wish I could just explain myself to them that I was just lost and time was not on my side.

A whole week passes by without making any friends because I don't socialize with people and I don't like socializing with them. On the other side assignments were coming as many as they could, online tests, quizes and that time I was not familiar with eFundi and I could not use properly as I did not attend the Orientation. I felt the pressure and I did not know how to use a computer as I was just a person from a rural area with no resources at my previous high school. At the base a girl saw me struggling to open the computer and he offered to assist m. His name was Thapelo a young Sotho man, God sent person came and helped to switch on the computer and he did not end there. He also thought me how to use efundi.

We chat a little bit getting to know each other and I managed to learn few sentences in Sesotho. As we were speaking I found out that he is in hi final year doing the same course as mine and I thought in my mind that I could learn a lot from hi since he has more experience than me. Being comfortable around him I eventually told him that I am so stressed about the assignments and tests that are all due in less than a week.

He told me I must not worry much because he has also experienced this much pressure so he totally understands. Out of his kindness he offered to help me with assignments and I told him I will manage but he did not take no for and answer. Though I was also thinking of him on the other side that I don't want him to neglect his work and be left behind because he was assisting me. We became close friends and study buddie at the same time as I learnt a lot from him and getting to know university as whole.

I got to learn new cultures and how other people live in other province and I adjusted well because i made a good friend that helped with pure intentions.

An Insight about beliefs shaping my worldview

15 May 2024, 23:13 Publicly Viewable

I believe that we all come from different backgrounds, faced different realities and that all makes us to have different worldviews. The world and our lives are shaped by how interact with people and live through our daily experiences. Under unit six it makes use to question the systems from which we currently know from and make meaning from understanding the world we truly exist in. In addition these texts also provides us to be on a look out for our prejudices, preconceptions and assumptions.

Two 'teachings'/beliefs that have shaped my worldview:

1. I grew up in a Christian household where I was taught the importance of loving your neighbor as much as you love yourself and how to behave as a Christian girl.

2. The importance of my spiritual journey, I was raised to believe that besides being a Christian you must also have your personal and intimate relationship with God. And also to practice what you preach to other people.

Sharing these with my classmate, I realized that the need on Christian and spirituality view of life my seem to be foreign or strange to the people of other Christian backgrounds. With that said I was intrigued by some of their spiritual journey and how they practice and do things. This exercise has helped me a lot to also become more aware of my own criticism of other beliefs or teachings and has also encouraged me a lot to see and approach different worldviews with an open heart and interest.

A Day in my life from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep at night:

( BY P.NTOMBINI 46079270)

I am a morning person by nature , I love waking up early because I do my things on time and accordingly. The first thing I do in the morning I pray so that my day can be a balanced jubilant day for me. I do the basic things that are usually done in the morning like making my bed , brushing my teeth , bathing but before I bath I make sure I look after my skin , eat breakfast so that I can be sustained during my day. After am   done , I go to my mirror for some small talk with myself so that I can get some encouragement from me before I could get it from others. I pack my materials for my school work and went to attend my first class of the day. My friend always put a space for me because she always know that am a late comer and is a very bad habit that I still need to fix .As a disciplined student I widely open my ears to receive information from my lecturer ask questions if I do not understand and answer the questions  being asked. As you know am a first year student , I meet new faces everyday if not overrated I would say every minute of the day. I try to socialize with different types of groups everyday so that I may have a certain group of peoples that I align myself with when we have a group assignment in every module that am doing. If I  do not have a class during certain hours of the day me and my friend we always go to the student center to grab something to eat and enjoy each others company but sometime we make time to study and help each other out where we can. Take some few pictures here and there.  Walk around the campus to just analyze its beauty and trying to get familiar with the place. Attend the rest of my classes for the day and then after attending I accompany my friend to the bus gate so that she can get in her transport and go to res. I said my goodbyes to her and then I came  back and go and take some nap at my res , just a small reward for a tough and tiring day. Wake up when its a bit dark , I call my mother. We speak for hours and hours because I really consider her as my bestfriend. She really priorities schoolwork , it is the first thing she ask me about when I call her. Me and my mother we sometimes have that very emotional call or a happy call it really just depends .I cook a very decent meal for myself and I eat. I take a shower just to be fresh and I bury  myself in my books until am drowsy. I pray to God for the day that he has given me and then I sleep.

The Poor Understanding of African literature

BY PN Ntombini [46079270]

INTRODUCTION:

The Western People should take pride in their literature despite their differences. Everyone should be able to behave in their own way and practice their own belief comfortably and in the way they want.

How to write about my Africa

Africa is a swelting stony with never ending pastures and

crowds of animals and tall, small people who are hungry.

Africa is filled with deserts, jungles, highlands, savannahs and many more.

Africans have music sounds that is deep in souls and eat things

no other people can eat. Africa’s plate of food choice is a goat, snakes, worms, grubs and

all other kinds of meat.

Africa humans have stripped veterans, very devoted

domestic prophet and oracle, very old wise men living in hermitic glory.

Africa people should be bright, unusual

larger than life but void inside, with no dialogue.

Africans treat animals well and they talk

[or call out willing throwing their manes very proudly]

Africans who lived in the jungle or desert has a great sense of humor

Africa’s most people are prestige activist and aid workers.

In Africa the sunset is a required thing.

Africa is known to be the land of wide empty spaces.

WILEY

Murdock has shown with respect to clan organization [1949;71]

Magical beliefs and practices of Nacirema show

unusual things to which behavior must be.

The very first ritual of Nacirema by

 professor Linton caught interest to

 the anthropologists twenty years ago

[1936, 326], although culture of people is not understood.

Nacirema culture is shown by developed market

economy which has become in rich natural homes.

Portion of the everyday life are spent in

ritual activity, the reason is the human body, how you look and health.

The essential belief in the whole system shows to be

the humor of the body, body is not fine and it

s naturality is disease. They use shrine in a box

which is built on the wall and are kept in

the chest of many charms and magical potion.

The most influential are the medicine

men who get reward from helping.

The divination pockets are so powerful and are sacred.

The holy water are secured from the water temple.

The Nacirema have photological horror and

imagination with mouth to which they believe to

have supernatural power on all relationship.

Magical things are placed in these holes augers, awls, probes, and prods.

The most sacred and traditional character of the rite evident is the fact that natives go back to the hoy mouth men year after years although their teeth continues to decay.

The ceremonies involve not only the

thaumaturge but a long- term group of vestal

maidens who go sedately about the temple chambers in distinctive costume and headdress.

The lalipso ceremonies are harsh but really sick natives

who goes to the sacred place get well even old adults.

The person entering the sacred place

is first take off all his or her clothes. Every moment in

life Nacirema escape discovery at his physique and its natural duty.

The Dangers of a Single Story

This story comes from Western literature whereby it talks about Africans and its poverty.

s

Some Nigerians have not been outside Nigeria and had no snows, they used to read British books and ha

d to love foreigners.

There was a poor boy named Philey and they

knew about their family is that they were very

poor and people were suprised when

they a beautiful creative thing made

by one of Philey family member. No possible of Africa to be similar, no connection

 between human beings.

Africa has beautiful landscapes, animals, facing senseless

wars, dying of poverty, comprehensive people, unable to speak

for themselves and waiting

to be saved by a kind white foreigner.

African are poor, grandfathers died in

 refuge camps, others died because

they did not have access to medical car , devalued education, others died in

military plane cause it did not have water

and food was becoming too expensive.

Nigerians do not read literature due to unaffordability and there are great talents but with no resources in Africa.

CHANGE YOUR CHANNEL [MALLENCE BART WILLIAMS]

5000 units of our country is worth only one unit of your own currency?

This story is about young souls who found themselves living in the streets due to war. As innocent as they were in this situation they were also impacted by this in a very bad way. Mallence Bart Wiliams cam and saved this children from the street as she saw potential in them. As expected the strived in life as they made good life choice and goo careers, for example one of the children became a lawyer. Africa is a very rich continent in minerals such:

  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamonds

And many more. The Western part views Africa as the poorest continent ever as they extract gold, platinum from Africa. Just a quick evident point that the aid is in fact not coming from the West to Africa but from Africa to the Western world. The Western ensure that the free aid keeps coming by systematically manipulating the richest African nations or identities and their systems, and all that backed by big PR Campaign, leaving the whole world under the impression that Africa is poor and dying. That Africa is merely surviving on the mercy of the West organizations that are in charge of multi-million dollar advertisement campaigns showing charity porn to maintain their image of Africa globally. Advertising campaign paid for very innocent people under the impression to help with their [OXFA, UNICEF, RED, CROSS, LIFE AID].
