In this blog entry i will discuss the concepts of "where I'm from."
My name is Thabiso and my surname is Mogari, I am Proudly Tswana. I was born and raised in South Africa, In the North West region, at a town called Potchefstroom. I have been raised in a very spiritual home by a single mother of 2 and i was also raised by my uncles which were younger brothers to my mother. I was raised and taught respect by my uncles and they taught me how to become a man at a very young age. My mother raised me and my little brother and she taught us many spiritual things like to believe in god and our ancestors as she is a traditional healer.
In my cultural background, there is a great emphasize placed on traditions and knowledge of my forefathers. The lessons that have been passed down through the millennia emphasize the need of respecting forebears and knowledge.
Reflecting on these intrinsic lessons and beliefs has taught me to appreciate the richness of my cultural heritage and the effect it has had on shaping my values, perspectives, and interactions with the outside world. I now have stronger sense of purpose, connection, and respect.
