Wainaina wrote a piece on how to write about Africa. In this piece he described the way in which Westerners wrote about Africa.
He noted how Westerners streotyped Africa. Streotypes can be defined as widly held beliefs/opinions that overly generalize about certain social groups, which are often unfair and/or untrue. Westerners treated Africa as a whole , thus generalizing it. They forgot that Africa is a continent with 54 countries and over 900 people.
Westerners viewed Africa as a primitive country, thus exoticizing it. Westerners writers would write about how Africans are dark and huge. Exoticization is the product of Eurocentrism over non-western societies as a measure of creating difference.
