"Humanity towards others" is the translation of the idea of Ubuntu, which is held dear in my ethnic group. This lesson focuses on how closely connected our personal existence is to that of others and the environment. We learn that community, empathy, and support from one another are important and that our actions affect people around us. This idea has influenced my worldview by motivating me to aim for harmony in all facets of my life and to think about the bigger picture while making decisions. I've learnt to approach disagreements with compassion and understanding, looking for solutions that serve the interests of the group as a whole rather than simply those of the individual.
Within my ethnic group, the idea of karma—which holds that all actions have consequences—is another fundamental teaching. We think that the things we say, do, and think will eventually affect the experiences we have in the future, for better or worse. This idea motivates us to develop good habits and intentions as well as a sense of personal accountability. My perspective has been impacted by this instruction since it has made me more responsible and mindful. I now realize that the decisions I make directly affect not just my own life but also the lives of people around me, which inspires me to make deliberate choices that foster development and wellbeing.
By examining these endogenous teachings, have gained a deeper appreciation for the cultural values and beliefs that shape my perspective. Anthropology's mantra reminds us that our familiar beliefs and practices can be made strange and new through reflection and exploration, allowing us to grow and learn from our cultural heritage.
Establishing and preserving a network of relationships is crucial to both our personal and professional life. Each person in our networks brings a different viewpoint or value to our lives. When i think back on my personal networks, i am reminded of the varied collection of individuals that play a significant role in my life.
Each member of my network-my family, friends, classmates, mentors and acquaintances has a distinct function to perform. My network is centered around my family who consistently offer love , support , and direction. Their unwavering devotion has shaped who i am and is a constant source of support when i am in need. They teach me the real meaning of loyalty and connections that stand the test of time and space.
Conversely, friends enrich my life with happiness, laughing, and shared experiences. I make memories, find common interests, and get counsel from them. They provide a feeling of community and belonging, which is critical for wellbeing and personal development. In return, I make an effort to be a dependable and encouraging friend who is always there to lend a sympathetic ear or a helpful hand.
Another important component of my network that helps me improve professionally is my classmate and mentorship. They provide me with fresh perspectives, learning opportunities, and insights. Their knowledge and insight motivate me to push myself to the limit and pursue greatness. I provide my abilities, expertise, and assistance in exchange so that we can work well together and accomplish shared objectives.
Even though they are not as closely linked, acquaintances are still quite important in my network. They extend my social circle, open my mind, and expose me to new concepts. We have exchanges that improve our lives and foster a sense of community via informal meetings and common interests.
My networks offer the setting for a wide range of complex exchanges. The interactions with family are based on affection, concern, and assistance to one another. We cheer each other on, exchange anecdotes, and provide support when needed. These interactions establish the links of trust and belonging that help us get through the difficult times in life.
Conversations with friends are mostly focused on having a good time, laughing, and sharing stories. Whether it's a movie night, a weekend trip, or just a straightforward coffee date, these interactions generate memories that fortify our relationship and foster our friendships. In today's hectic environment, we provide one other with emotional support, guidance, and a sense of belonging that is priceless.
Professional contexts are characterized by knowledge sharing, teamwork, and mentorship exchanges. Mentors and classmates offer direction, criticism, and growth chances. I get new knowledge, develop my abilities, and create a network of support through these exchanges, all of which help me advance in my work.
In summary, networks play a critical role in our lives by allowing us to interact with a wide range of people who enhance our experiences and help us develop. We weave a fabric of relationships by fostering these ties, one that helps us overcome obstacles and rejoice in our victories. May we always value and nurture our connections, creating deep conversations that improve our lives and fill us with happiness.
Firstly , my alarm normally goes off at 7 in the morning . I Push the snooze button a few times before getting out of bed . I can feel the warmth of the sun coming through my curtains as I yawn and stretch . I quickly take a shower and head to the kitchen to make breakfast and I usually have coffee and cereal .
I check my social accounts while drinking coffee to stay up to date on the newest information . After finishing up my breakfast , I go to school via a bus from res . I always have a busy day at campus , I mean its class after class . By the time I leave campus its already evening .
From there I catch a bus and depart to res and decide to meet up with my friends , take a walk with them to the shops while engaging and catching up on each others lives since well all of us are first years students.
As the night progresses , we call it a night as I make my way to the kitchen , eat and make my way back to my room and start catching up with my school work till I feel like i've done enough and then settle into bed , pray and reflect on how my day was as I slowly drift to sleep.
Stereotype is a term that is used to refer to a widely held but oversimplified idea of a certain type of person or thing . In this blog post , I delve into a journey of reflection upon a stereotypical situation I recently encountered
From 'The danger of a single story' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie , I can relate to how she encountered a stereotype in the United States where her roommate was so shocked to learn that Adichie could speak English so good and Nigeria happen to have English as its official language. I remember my first day at res and my roommate was so shocked that that I can speak Sesotho fluently cause I am from Potchefstroom...She then told me that they have this idea in their minds that we people from Potchefstroom speak Setswana like people in Rustenburg...I was so surprised cause in the community that I live in back at Potchefstroom we spoke variety of languages .
In conclusion , what I have learnt so far is that stereotypes creates generalization and can lead to discrimination against certain groups of people or certain societies , therefore it is important for one to question him or herself whether his or her thoughts are based on facts or stereotypes .
