Where do you learn from?

Sourcing my beliefs and values from my origin Ethnic group known as Zulu, people " AmaZulu ". AmaZulu of the Nguni are a native Ethnic or Population originating from South Africa. As a Zulu man my beliefs are strongly grounded by the teachings, hournering and respecting the ancestors known as "Abaphansi". As a male my responsibilities are calculated by the values of knowledge, wisdom, understanding, justice, freedom, advocating equality but dominance, peace, unity, love, respect, work, fun and overcoming the negative to the positive. A belief that is endogenous to the Zulu are the Ancestors. Ancestors presence in our lives is of paramount importance that we may be able to remain original and carry out information from our tribe from generations to generations so that we remain strong and independent. Ancestors  serve as our guardians, lecturers and protectors. Our ancestors reign from ancient times and they became glorified after the passing of our most celebrated Zulu King uShaka. Due to his teachings of military tactics and physical strength, men have now been judged from these. These values give men a sense of identity as the leader and the protector of nation or household. Men are respected when they posses physical strength and military tactics, even in the modern times these values are still stressed to boys from the age of 5. Without Shaka as the main ancestor of all Zulus this would not have been carried out till today. As mentioned our ancestors are to be honoured and respected, well we honour Shaka by continuing his beliefs. Furthermore Zulus are diversified by surnames and clan names, they do things in a different way but there is a link between them due to the values and beliefs of the Zulu people. From my clan a boy is to be taught how to handle heavy apparatus from the age of 5 so that they grow physical strength. This is to be of great value when one of our family member who posses the ability to communicate and receive information or commands from the ancestors. The boy will be the one to carry out the process of helping in the ritual or ceremony that is so be served to the ancestors. the boy at the age of 15 is given the responsibility to slaugther a goat or cow for the ceremony so that people share the meal and continue in the ancestors ceremony. When the boy is successful with this duty, he is no longer a boy but a man which means he can be trusted to hold, protect and represent his father's household when he is old. The boy will be made a ritual called umemelo, this ritual is to inform and introduce the boy to his ancestors and therefore he will take after his father's surname transitioning from his mother's. This is because The clan believes that a child belongs to the father's side of the family as he is the one who planted the seed and he is the one to reap what he sow.

My own Stereotypes based on my own assumptions and how they create otherness

Chinamanda Adichies goal to to raise awareness about the dangers of a single side story to inform people that they need to change how they view the unseen side of the world to deserve emotions of pity frequently reduces their insight of the world. As she mentions  "Show a people as one thing, as only one thing, over and over again and that is what they become" using her American's roommate's confusion of how an African can speak English as fluent as she did, because she knows Africa to be poor and indigenous. As I am an individual who was also recruited to a stereotype that " People who do not graduate from high school and proceed with tertiary education, they do not normally make it life or they end up as purposeless individuals ". The truth behind this can be challenged or argued against. The fact that the capitalism system that dominates globally has made things like this to be seen as true, while it is not true. The way you choose to live reflects how you will rip the fruits of your labor. I would love to use one of the successful musicians in South Africa " Cassper Nyovest " as an example to support the title of this blog. Cassper Nyovest dropped out of high school to pursue his musical career. Today not only he survives on music but other income streams making him millions supported by his innovative ideas and  amount of shrewdness to business. He overcame the odds that without a specific qualification you will not be unable to be a laborer provider. One thing about the South African youth is that we are uninformed that entrepreneurship is also a career path. This creates stress and depression amongst the youth to lose hope for tomorrow.

Reflection of my Networks

My networks are mostly urban these include my employment colleagues, university mates and NPO mates. Having to come from a capitalist family, I am juggling school work, employment work and the Families NPO. Having that I am now In University I am able to contact my colleagues to assist me with my work that is due. Never thought that I'll turn out to live the life I promised myself not to live, sleeping for two hours like my Dad, working and studying at once. Finding myself under the operations management at the families NPO recently I am responsible for preparing proposals for potential sponsors and having to run the programme and collecting managing funds that go and leave the account, these might donations, funds from partners etc. With University mates I have found family and friends that help me with catching up with my school when I am really exhausted from working and studying at night. Sometimes I might be lazy to navigate the efundi website I am able to rely on them to keep me posted with what is due what to study. Having two of my friends in varsity Sinesipho and Vuyo these two individuals have been my biggest network entries in my circle. I have developed a sense of taking my responsibilities serious and managing my priorities. I relate to these two individuals as friends and self chosen family, my most reliable sources helping me find my way between employment and university work although I find it strange that they are not employed themselves. My employment network includes my sister as my boss and supervisor under operations management, Siyanda as my boss under the department of Audio and Visual. Dr Steven Zwane my dad is the founder of the family's NPO his my first NPO boss, having to retire that path was set for Faith Moeletsane who has taught me about how the NPO works, what is its purpose and its vision and mission. Having to be a part of this innitiative, not only as a volunteer I was taught how to speak in a bsuiness language and since business or entrepreneurship is a curriculum that is not taught in high school. This aided me to not only see entrepreneurship as a difficult path to learn but also view it as a career path. Have  you ever wondered how possible and interesting it is to teach or educate physical sciences students about business ? My colleagues under the Audio and Visual department are responsible for my training for film making, videography, video editing and photography. Having to no longer having direct contact with them, they have left me with a very valuable skill. As a musician this has a huge impact when it comes to this area of expertise " music production ", the impact is that I do not have to rely on other people to push my craft but be independent, because I will be able to shoot and edit my own music videos.
