We learned about the solar system’s position in the Milky Way. We also had a chance to explore Earth’s place in the solar system and why its distance from the sun makes life possible. We looked at the movement of Earth and other planets around the sun, focusing on rotation and revolution. The study unit also focuses on Johannes Kepler’s three laws of planetary movement and how they explain planetary orbits. This study unit helped us understand Earth’s uniqueness in relation to the wider universe. The study unit discusses the origin of the universe and Earth’s place in the solar system. We discussed what the universe is and what it consists of, such as galaxies, stars, and planets. We studied theories about the origin of the universe, including the Big Bang theory which it only theory we focused on. In this study unit we got to understand what causes day and night, also what causes the seasons we have on earth. While doing this study unit we got to understand the main reasons why earth is the only planet that’s suitable for life.

What I enjoyed the most about this study unit was learning about different planets and their characteristics. The other part I found interesting was the one about earth being the only planet suitable for life.
